The Parras Counseling department is excited to provide you with an overview of the various ways that we are serving the Parras learning community. Here is a quick summary of the great things that we have been up to this winter:
Our first Counselor Corner Newsletter of the school year went out in December. If you haven’t yet completed the interest survey, please do so. We value your input as it relates to your interest in learning more about topics that we can include in future newsletters. Please take this short survey by clicking here.
In January, the counseling team delivered a stress and anxiety guidance lesson to our 7th grade students. We encourage you to review the presentation with your student(s) in order to discuss the various ways that they can better manage their feelings. You will find this informative presentation here. This lesson is great for all of our Parras students, grades 6-8.
In March, our TUPE lessons will be delivered to all 7th grade students during science class! TUPE stands for Tobacco Use Prevention Education. Parras 7th graders will get an opportunity to learn all about the negative consequences of tobacco and other nicotine-based products. To learn more about our TUPE lessons clickhere.
Hang Out Spot takes place every Thursday during lunch. Students are welcome to join the counseling staff in the MPR where we have music playing, fun games to play and art supplies available. If your child wants to make new friends, then Hang Out Spot is the place to be! It is also ideal for students who just need a place to unwind and recharge.
Career Day is around the corner! Our Virtual Career Day for the 2022 school year is scheduled for Friday, March 25th. Career Day is a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about a variety of careers to include the training and education required for those specific careers. It is awesome to see how excited our students get. Our annual Career Day truly encourages students to think about their post-secondary options and we are unable to make this a reality without our amazing parent and community member volunteers. We invite you to consider being a guest presenter. If you would like to learn more, please complete thisshort survey no later than February 11th.

The first Board of Managers of the National Congress of Mothers, later renamed National PTA
Did you know that the first-ever PTA meeting was held Feb. 17, 1897 in Washington, DC? That means National PTA is turning 125 years old on Feb. 17, 2022—and we plan to celebrate in a big way nationwide.
Since that first meeting 125 years ago, PTA members have changed the course of our nation’s history. Our association has played a major role in historic achievements, including the establishment of public school kindergartens, child labor laws, the federal school lunch program and more.
Our founders were women of vision and passion. They refused to accept the status quo of their day, and so we must consider, what would they think of our work today? We won’t rest on our laurels. Join us in our efforts to take their dreams into the future.
