Tunbridge Fair will be here before you know it. Please save the date of 9/14 for Education day! We need chaperones and we would love you have parent/guardians/friends of family commit early. We need you to fill out the 2023-2024 Vermont Criminal Information Form and share a copy of your license with our main office.

First Branch News!

Hello First Branch,

Happy Father's Day to all our First Branch Fathers and people that fill this role for our students! We have had an action packed week! Many thanks to the faculty, staff, and volunteers who helped to make these events possible. As we close out our first year, we have so much to celebrate! We are also grateful for all the help we have coming for field day on 6/20 at both schools.

As a gentle reminder, TCS closes on 6/21. Please have your students check the lost and found no later than 6/20. All TCS building space, fields, playgrounds, and parking lots will be closed until EEI construction is completed. Our main offices will run out of Chelsea Public School for the summer.

In closing, we had two associate principal candidates visit on Friday. Our students and faculty welcomed them with open arms and let them jump right in. We hope to have an update soon as we review the feedback.

Finally, we look forward to finishing the year strong on Monday and Tuesday. We are reminding all students and families that all our school expectations are still in place. We have so much to celebrate as we close out this historical year as First Branch Unified District!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Janet Cash

Update: Child Nutrition Program at the AOE

This is a request from the Child Nutrition Program at the Agency of Education to include in your end of year communications to families:

All students at our school will be receiving the Summer P-EBT benefit of $120 which can be spent on food at the grocery store, farmers markets, and some convenience stores and online retailers.

  • If your family has previously received a P-EBT benefit or receives 3SquaresVT, the summer benefit will be added to your existing card in late July or early August. If you have lost or thrown away your card, please call 1‐800‐479‐6151, option 7 for a replacement card.
  • If you have never received a P-EBT benefit for any children in your household, you will be mailed a new card in late July or early August. You will be mailed instructions for activating the new card in a separate letter. These instructions include a 9-digit number that you will need to use instead of your social security number when you activate the card or when you call the call center. It is not a real social security number. To activate the card, enter the last four digits of the number in the letter when you are asked for the last four digits of your social security number. You will also need to enter the date of birth of your oldest child listed in the letter using 8 digits in a MM/DD/YYYY format. Please look for the letter in the mail and do not throw it away. Both the card and the letter will be mailed by the Vermont Department of Children and Families.

If your address changes over the summer, please call 1‐800‐479‐6151, option 7 to update your address.

All students at our school are entitled to receive this benefit. If you do not wish to use your benefit to buy food for your own family, we encourage you to use it to buy food for a local food pantry. Benefits that are not used will be sent back to the federal government. You may not give your card to anyone else, but you may buy food for others with the card.

If you have more questions about P-EBT, please visit the P-EBT website.

At the front of the 1912 CPS building there is a book shelf of free books. These books can be taken by anyone for any purpose. Many of these books have sat in storage for years. Teaches have taken what they need for classrooms. Books will move on by 6/22. The farmer's market is a great time to check them out!

On the Horizon:

Compost:UV Super Compost Project (WRVSU)

We are so excited to announce that our school is a participant in the Upper Valley Super Compost Project!

The Upper Valley Super Compost Project is institutionalizing living compost systems into 24 participating school outdoor classrooms.

The goal is to increase real-world problem-solving opportunities, enhance the health of schoolyards, school and community gardens, and save schools money!

On-site compost systems have the potential to shift current organics hauling fees paid by most schools into an investment school staff, students, community engagement and regeneration.

In addition to saving money, compost systems serve as a classroom extension enhancing STEM curriculum and providing a mechanism for a student-run business.

This replicable model will lay a foundation for regions to collaborate in systemic change-making.

The UV Super Compost Project Team is working hard to raise the one-time costs of implementing the project. In addition to federal and state grants, private donors and foundation requests, the UVSCP team has created a crowdfunding campaign to demonstrate the expansive community support to provide schools and students with innovative resources and tools they need to implement solutions to real-world problems like climate change.
