SUNSHINE WEEK
March 12-18, 2023 is Sunshine Week, where organizations raise awareness and discuss transparency in government. Many of our state attorneys general took the opportunity to publicize various sunshine laws in their states. Below are some of those resources and communications.
DACA
California Attorney General Rob Bonta and New York Attorney General Letitia James co-led a 22-state amicus brief in Texas v. USA. States joining the amicus brief were Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Washington, and Wisconsin.
GENDER CLASSIFICATION
Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin co-led a 21-state amicus brief in West Virginia v. B.P.J. States joining the amicus brief were Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.

Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin announced the creation of an Election Integrity Unit within his office.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel congratulated Michigan AAG Aaron Levin on being named an Ingham County Bar Association "Top 5 Under 35 Lawyer" for 2023.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced the results of a multi-jurisdiction warrant execution targeting alleged human trafficking and money laundering activities.
New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin issued a statewide directive related to the retention of DNA and other medical exam evidence in sexual assault cases.
Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry announced the filing of a lawsuit related to the cost of insulin for patients.
Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach announced the details of a sentencing in an elder abuse case prosecuted by his office.
OPIOIDS
Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser announced that the Colorado Opioid Abatement Council "approved over $1.9 million in infrastructure grants for six organizations throughout Colorado."
MERCHANT CATEGORY CODES



New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin, District of Columbia Attorney General Brian Schwalb, Delaware Attorney General Kathleen Jennings, and Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell co-led a coalition of 14 states in writing a letter to credit card companies related to merchant category codes for gun and ammunition sales.
AG HIGHLIGHTS
Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares announced his office's participation in the Legal Food Frenzy, in partnership with the Virginia Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry met with "more than 400 School District of Philadelphia students from 15 high schools for the Office of Attorney General’s Fourth Annual Career Week."
The Kentucky Nonprofit Network recognized Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron's office for efforts to collaborate with the nonprofit community in the fight against opioid abuse.
New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez appeared on the New Mexico News Podcast (KRQE) and shared his office priorities and, specifically, his focus on combating organized retail crime.
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul was a 2023 inductee into the Cook County Bar Association's Hall of Fame.
