Apply To Serve On The City Council

The City of Ellensburg is accepting applications from persons wishing to be considered to fill an upcoming vacancy on the City Council - Position 4. The unexpired term, vacated by Bruce Tabb, ends December 31, 2023. The City Council will appoint a qualified person to fill Position 4 until the next election at which a member of the City Council would normally be elected, which will be November 2023. 


Applications are available on the City website or at City Hall, 501 North Anderson Street, Ellensburg, Washington 98926.


Required qualifications:

  • Registered voter of the City of Ellensburg, and
  • A resident of the City of Ellensburg for at least one year next preceding the date of appointment.


Applications are due by Friday, August 26, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted. Applicant introductions are scheduled to take place at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Applicant interviews are scheduled to take place at a Special Council Meeting on Monday, September 12, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. Applicants will be advised of any changes to this schedule. Jr. Rodeo Parade

Join in the Ellensburg Rodeo Tradition! This 8-block parade is always a highlight of the Rodeo Kick-Off Breakfast. The theme for this year is "Horns, Hides & Carnival Rides. Pre-register by August 17.


Parade route: north on Pearl Street to 5th Avenue, east on 5th Avenue to Pine Street, south on Pine Street to 2nd Avenue, and west on 2nd Avenue back to the skate park.

Celebrate National Night Out With EPD

Eat with the heat! Join the Ellensburg Police Department (EPD) for a free BBQ from 6-8 p.m. August 2 at Veteran's Memorial Park on 7th Avenue and Poplar Street. Help the Ellensburg Police Department and partner public safety agencies celebrate National Night Out with free hot dogs and hamburgers. There will be goody bags for the kids, car seat checks, and child ID/DNA kits.

Stop by Dakota Cafe, 417 N. Pearl St., for a cup and conversation with two members of the City Council on August 19 from 9-11 a.m.

Reminder: Grant Applications Due August 31

The City of Ellensburg applications for City grant programs to support community initiatives, programs, and arts and cultural events are open for 2023 awards. The application deadline is August 31.


Four Council funded grant programs include:

  • Community Grant
  • Park Partnerships
  • Water Quality Grants
  • Historic Preservation Grants


Arts Commission grants are available too. Apply by August 31.

About City Boards & Commissions

Library Board Helps Develop Library Collection

The Library Board is responsible for providing citizen input to the City ManagerCity Council, and the Library Director; considering and recommending library policies; participating in efforts to secure library funds; assisting with collection development policies; advising the Director during budget preparations; and supporting and participating in public relations and marketing programs.


The Library Board meets at 4:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the Council Conference Room at City Hall and virtually via Zoom. There are seven Library Board members, the majority of which must be City residents. Board members are appointed by the City Manager, and serve five-year terms.

Doggie Paddle At The Pool 8/28

The annual doggie paddle will take place from 6-7 p.m. Sunday, August 28 at the Kittitas Valley Memorial Pool. Enter on the outdoor deck of the pool east of the main staircase. The event is free with a pet food donation or $6 per pup. Dogs must be well-behaved and accompanied by a handler 16 years or older at all times.
