LENTEN WEDNESDAY
SUPPER AND BIBLE STUDY AT 5:30; EVENING PRAYERS AT 6:30

Dear Pilgrims,
We had, in the experience of many of us, a wonderful worship service on Sunday with the deep story of the woman at the well.
I spoke about how this story in John 4 is connected to the story of Jesus and Nicodemus in John 3. That story ends with the famous verse, God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten Son… Jesus shows his disciples what this world of God’s loving looks like. He takes them straight to the despised territory of Samaria – it was all bad blood there as far as the Israelites were concerned. Then Jesus engages in a long conversation with a woman—alone! It really couldn’t get much more inappropriate according to law and custom. But, before it’s all over, the person who (un)checked all the acceptable boxes becomes a gospel preacher.
We also had rich music with an organ, a cello, and the praise band. The cherry on top was the largest number of worshipers so far in 2023!
Our Wednesday Night fellowship, study, and worship events have been well attended, too. Tonight, we’ll talk about how the most Lutheran of all theologies – Law and Gospel – helps us understand the difficult passage in 1 Timothy about women not being permitted to preach and teach. I hope to see you there!

Important news and information from Council | |
Flood damage update
We received the insurance adjuster’s on-site inspection report and recommendations. In addition, the Property Committee contacted the insurance company to clarify our questions. Council will meet this Sunday, March 19, after church to hear the committee’s thoughts and recommendations. We will have more information for you next week after that meeting.
Communicate, communicate, communicate!
Her last call went out Friday, March 10, at 5:30 p.m. to 150 individuals. Of those, only one was unsuccessful. The other 149 were either answered (63) or went to voice mail (86). That’s excellent news. It means that by our new ability to communicate with our congregation quickly and effectively, we are successfully increasing the accuracy and frequency of information going to our congregation.
For those of you curious about other forms of communication we currently use to keep our congregation and others informed, we use:
DialMyCalls (telephone calling system)
Pastor Mary makes weekly (Friday, 5:30 p.m.) telephone calls to the congregation.
Electronic Sign by Road
Council, Pastor, team and committee leaders, and others email office administrator Reed Corley with information for the electronic sign.
Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/wearepilgrim)
Scott Vaughan maintains the Pilgrim Lutheran Church Facebook page. Scott generally pulls information from Pilgrim’s Progress and schedules it on our Facebook Page. Council, Pastor, team and committee leaders, and members email also Scott photographs and information for Facebook.
Pilgrim’s Progress (weekly e-newsletter)
Council, Pastor, team and committee leaders, and others email Scott Vaughan articles and information by the end of the day Tuesday. Scott Vaughan composes weekly issues of e-newsletter using Constant Contact. The issue goes out each Wednesday morning to the congregation through email.
Preschool Weekly Round-Up Email
Pilgrim Community Preschool Director Meredith Cook sends a summary each week of events that took place within the Preschool, upcoming events, and any standing opportunities/requests. The emails are sent to the parents of all current students. Pertinent information is also shared with the congregation in Pilgrim’s Progress.
Sunday Slides for Announcements and Events
Council, Pastor, team and committee leaders, and others email Scott Vaughan information for slides by the end of the day Tuesday. Scott then creates slides projected before Sunday Worship.

We had another wonderful and busy week at Pilgrim Community Preschool last week. We ended our week by welcoming our Dads (or grandpas and uncles) for Donuts with Dad! We loved being able to share quality time and sweets with these men who play a special role in the lives of our preschoolers. | Preschool prepares for Art Festival, April 28 |
Pilgrim Community Preschool (PCP) is excitedly preparing for its 3rd Annual Art Festival on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 5 p.m.
This fun event not only showcases artwork from children enrolled at PCP but also encourages local artisans and vendors to join in on the fun. Last year, some of the vendors featured were a local children's author, a jewelry designer, a clothing retailer, handmade charcuterie boards, an antique dealer, and some local favorite food trucks.
Our goal is to bring the community together and celebrate our preschool. We would love to have you join us for the Art Festival as a vendor or attendee. If interested in vending, please email directorofpcp@gmail.com.
