Elegant Italian Dinner

Saturday, February 4, 2023

The Elegant Italian Dinner is a major fundraiser for the Youth Mission Trip and a favorite social event for the parish. The youth host an elegant dinner of homemade lasagna, salad, and dessert.

There is a silent auction and great fellowship. It also provides an excellent opportunity for previous participants to share their experiences with the congregation.

The youth will have tickets to sell at coffee hour and tickets are available online. The Social Hour and Silent Auction begin at 6 p.m. Dinner is served at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults.

Sunday, January 29, is the last day to purchase tickets.

Souper Bowl of Caring

The junior and senior high school members of Grace's Episcopal Youth Community are helping those less fortunate by collecting nonperishable food goods and funds for Kirk Care through The Souper Bowl of Caring. Your donations will support the hungry right here within the Kirkwood School District. In the past few years, Kirk Care has supported the food needs of over 6,000 of our neighbors.

To make this even more exciting, the Gospel side will be pitted against the Epistle side to see which team will be victorious in the Big Game. On Sunday, February 12, the youth will be in the Narthex after the 10:00 a.m. service representing their sides to collect donations. Your support of our community is greatly appreciated.

First Sundays @ Five

Sunday, February 5

Join us for a candlelight service of music, readings, responses, and prayers.

The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (February 2), known popularly as Candlemas, commemorates the purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the presentation of Christ in the temple, which took place 40 days after his birth as Jewish law required.

Once in the temple, Jesus was purified by the prayer of Simeon in the presence of Anna, the prophetess. Upon seeing the Messiah, Simeon gave thanks to the Lord, singing a hymn now called the Nunc Dimittis.

Altar Guild Annual Meeting & Brunch

Saturday, February 11

Members of Grace, we have a shortage of Altar Guild members. This ministry is vital to our worship. It also allows us to understand our faith, our ceremonies, and why we do them. We invite all women and men to explore their faith with us. Your commitment is once-a-month as we work in teams.

We will host our annual Altar Guild annual meeting and brunch on Saturday, February 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the library. Thomas will join us to give us the priest’s side of what the Altar Guild is about. If you have any interest, simply want more information at this point, or already know you want to help us, please let any current Altar Guild member know, or contact Rebecca Harrison or 314-791-7149.

Outreach at Grace

Making a Difference in People’s Lives

Over the next year, you’re going to be hearing more about what’s going on within the many ministries to which we offer not only grants and gifts, but also our time and talent. Look for regular updates such as this as we seek to increase awareness of the good that is being done by Grace members for those in need within our community and our diocese.

DID YOU KNOW? Grace Episcopal Church is one of the sponsoring congregations for the Shepherd’s Center of Webster-Kirkwood. This non-profit organization has over 200 volunteers that contribute to helping older adults stay actively engaged in life.

And what are people saying about their services?

“Thank you for the wonderful transportation service. My driver was gracious and made it fun going to my doctor’s appointment.” – Gwen

“The group that raked my yard did a wonderful job and provided me with great company.” – Beth

Pastoral Care

Grace’s clergy are available by appointment to discuss personal, pastoral, or spiritual matters; please call or email the clergy directly. The lay pastoral care team members are also available to visit and bring communion to those unable to be at church in person. Please let the clergy or Sara Losse know (saratlosse@yahoo.com) if you or someone you know in the congregation is in need of a pastoral visit.

If you have a concern that you would prefer to keep private, please let the clergy or Ruth Moore know (clesiemo1@yahoo.com) so that she can put your need on the prayer chain. Throughout the week, members of the Grace Prayer Chain pray privately for the congregation's special needs.

In case of a pastoral emergency, please call the parish office at 314-821-1806. A priest is on call at all times. In case of hospitalization, when a church member is near death or has died, please notify the clergy as soon as possible so that we may minister to you and your family with prayers and anointing.

Transition Prayer

Almighty God, who knows our needs even before we ask, grant us a spirit of faith and courage, that we may have the strength to meet the days to come with steadfastness and patience; look graciously on this parish family and send forth your Holy Spirit to guide us to be of one heart and mind, that we may receive a faithful pastor, who will care for your people and equip us for our ministries; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
