Get an insider’s view of the discussions and activities in the corporate and nonprofit boardroom. Gain insights into the qualities, skills and experiences that are most sought after in candidates for directorships. Learn how you can demonstrate you are board-ready, plus tactics to navigate the often hidden and mysterious board selection process. Learn about the challenges and fiduciary responsibilities of board directors.

Bring your questions to representatives of several corporate and nonprofit boards, as well as BoardAgender, who will offer their perspectives on board directorships.

Members who are interested in serving on a corporate, private, or nonprofit board are invited to complete the 100WF Corporate/Private and Nonprofit Board questionnaires. Those members will be included in board searches and invited to selective and complimentary board education/training, networking and VIP events.

100 Women in Finance follows local government guidance in producing in-person events. Note that, should local government guidance change in advance of this event, we shall notify guests of any changes or cancellations.

Tan Min Lan
Head Chief Investment Office APAC, UBS Global Wealth Management

Tan Min Lan is the Head of the Asia Pacific Investment Office at UBS Global Wealth Management Chief Investment Office, since July 2013. She serves as a member of the Global Investment Committee, Emerging Market Investment Committee and Asia Investment Committee, which formulate the regional and global UBS House View. Prior to joining UBS Global Wealth Management, Min Lan spent eleven years with the UBS Investment Bank where she held a number of senior appointments. From 2002-2012, Min Lan was the Head of Research and Strategist at UBS Securities Singapore. Over this period, Min Lan was ranked a top analyst in Asia across major institutional investor surveys, including being named the Number 1 analyst in Singapore by Asiamoney for ten straight years. From 2006, she was concurrently appointed the Head of Equities for Singapore, with oversight of research, sales, trading and execution, prime brokerage and exchange traded derivatives. In 2012, Min Lan was made the Global Head of FICC Macro Strategy Research, where she was in charge of teams covering global asset allocation, global emerging markets, fixed income, FX and credit research. Before joining UBS, Min Lan worked as a senior economist with the Econometric Modelling unit at the Monetary Authority of Singapore, as well as an economist and strategist at Merrill Lynch covering the Asian equities markets. Min Lan holds a Bachelor in Accountancy (Hons) from the National University of Singapore and is a CFA charter holder. She sits on the Board of Trustees of the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).

Seah Gek Choo
Southeast Asia SheXO Program & Talent Leader, Deloitte

Gek Choo brings with her more than 25 years of experience in public accounting in Singapore, with a focus on serving multinational and local companies in the real estate and hospitality industries. She has advised many companies on initial public offerings on the Singapore Exchange and has facilitated external seminars on updates to financial reporting standards and initial public offerings. Gek Choo is part of the Singapore Real Estate team and is the Talent Leader for Deloitte Southeast Asia. She leads the Deloitte Southeast Asia's Boardroom Program, which develops advance thinking and promotes dialogues with key influences, business leaders, corporations and their boards of directors, investors, the accounting profession, academia and government on current and emerging corporate governance issues. She is also the leader for Deloitte Southeast Asia's SheXO Program, which supports the personal and professional development of established, emerging or aspiring women leaders by creating a supportive environment for them to connect, grow and drive change in communities to advance women in leadership. She is a faculty member of the Deloitte University Asia Pacific and conducts leadership programme for Deloitte leaders in the Asia Pacific region. She is a Chartered Accountant of Singapore and a member of ISCA, as well as Fellow Member of CPA Australia.

Robert Grome
Non-Executive Director, Singapore Fund Directors Association

Robert was a Financial Services Partner with PwC Hong Kong and PwC Singapore and led the Firm’s Asset Management practice in Asia Pacific. He dealt extensively with boutique Investment Managers and Family Offices in the long only, Private Equity and Hedge Fund spaces as well as many of the largest global fund managers. He sat on PwC’s Global Leadership Team for the Asset Management Industry for nearly 18 years. Robert retired from PwC in 2014 and subsequently took on a number of consulting and fiduciary roles in both Hong Kong and here in Singapore. These roles have mostly been in the asset management industry, involve a broad range of asset classes and have included several multi-billion dollar entities as well as smaller start-ups. Robert sits on the Global Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) and is the Vice Chairman of the Singapore Fund Directors Association.

Karen Loon
Non-Executive Director, Bank Pictet & Cie (Asia) Ltd

Karen Loon is a Non-Executive Director and former partner of PwC with over 30 years of experience working with local, regional and multinational organisations in Australia and Singapore. She has worked with corporate boards throughout her professional career and has been an independent director or committee member of various corporates, professional organisations or not-for-profits for over 18 years. She is currently an Independent Director, the Audit Committee Chair and a Risk Committee member of Bank Pictet & Cie (Asia) Ltd, a Governing Council member of the Singapore Institute of Directors and a Committee Member of BoardAgender.

Georgette Tan
President, United Women Singapore

Georgette Tan is President of United Women Singapore (UWS), a non profit organisation advocating gender equality, women’s empowerment and focused on building the pipeline of future female leaders. She is on the board of the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO) and is Chair of BoardAgender, an initiative of SCWO focused on increasing the number of women on boards in Singapore. She also serves on the Climate Action SG Alliance (CASA), other Alliance for Action (AFA) Committees relating to tech-facilitated gender violence and other women’s issues in Singapore, and serves on the industry advisory panel for the Global Women in Public Relations Singapore. Georgette served on the Taskforce on Family Violence, co-chaired by the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
