Integrative Care in Behavioral Health and Addiction Treatment

The Tulane School of Social Work Porter Cason Institute for the Family is virtually hosting Integrative Care in Behavioral Health and Addiction Treatment presented by Philip Hemphill, PhD, LCSW on Friday, April 1, 2022 at 1:00 PM to 3:15 PM CST.

The impact of Integrative Health in addiction treatment requires addressing of both behavioral and medical conditions. This process involves screening, consultation, and intervention in a coordinated manner that promotes health and wellness. The importance of creating strategies that increase both patient and staff literacy with a phased in activation will be presented with case examples. Data from this process of implementation will be provided for discussion as well as a model of care. Finally, an assessment of your organizations readiness with fidelity scales will be provided for enhanced commitment to patient care.

In recent decades, healthcare has begun to move away from siloization and toward a model of integrated care.  Primary care providers are increasingly seen as the ones who are in charge of overseeing the care process, which ensures that one person is responsible for the overall direction of treatment. They maintain the patient-centered care team which allows individuals to feel grounded and the technology has facilitated this with electronic health record (EHR) systems making the sharing and documenting of patient information much easier and more transferable.  While healthcare has evolved to include specializations in data science, health systems management, and population health, the field still has progress to make—especially with regard to integration of behavioral health and addiction. Therefore, working side-by-side with providers should have a commitment to goal attainment of enhancing our behavioral health provider communities.

From this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Define an integrative care model that offers comprehensive services;

• List methods available for clinicians aligning addiction treatment, behavioral health, and primary care;

• Assess your organizations readiness for implementation of integrative care;

 • Generate fidelity scales to assess progress of integration.

This training is designed for Licensed Social Workers and LPCs. This continuing education workshop provides 2 clinical hours.
