Masking Update for Ballard High School
From Dr. Joseph Williams' March 9 Letter to the Community:

"Beginning on Monday, March 14, masks will be optional for all (students, staff, and families), indoors and outdoors. Mask wearing has been and continues to be an effective COVID mitigation strategy, and Ballard High School will continue to support an individual's choice to continue mask wearing. We recognize that families and staff have many feelings about this district-wide decision.

"At Ballard High School, we will model, practice, and reinforce that wearing/not wearing a mask is now an individual choice and we will respect everyone’s individual decision. I can assure you that any type of shaming of students who choose to continue wearing a mask at Ballard High School will not be tolerated.

"Please have conversations with your child(ren) about the choice your family will make. Although we will continue to have extra masks for anyone who wants or needs one, we will not be reminding/checking/tracking anyone’s mask usage.

Thank you for your continued support!"

STUDENT LIFE
Ballard Rotary Seniors of the Month
Nalia M-J.: Nalia has been chosen as Ballard Rotary Senior Student of the Month because of her school spirit, and dedication to make positive change in the Ballard community.

Her classmate Virginia says, "Nalia is one of the most intelligent people I know. I admire her for being so proud of who she is and I'm so lucky to be one of her closest friends."

Nalia has done much work with Multicultural Club over the years like overseeing the Black Excellence Panel where successful Black individuals came and talked to the students about the power of an education. She also tells us that she uses her identity as a woman of color to benefit younger students at Loyal Heights Elementary and Whitman. She has done seminars and worked with Multicultural Club over the years to help younger students of color. Thank you for your work in the Ballard community, and your exemplary show of Ballard Pride, Nalia!
Jonah W.: Jonah has been chosen because of his dedication to education, and helping others in his class succeed as high as he does.

His classmate Cole writes, "Jonah is the type of person to drop everything and help someone if they need it no matter what he is doing."

Jonah tells us he is a stellar athlete on the Ballard Baseball team and spends his free time volunteering at the Ballard Food Bank, packaging food for those in need. Thank you for representing our community with pride, Jonah!
