5 WAYS TO INCREASE YOUR KNOWLEDGE THIS FAIR HOUSING MONTH
Posted on April 1, 2022

Each April, Fair Housing Month is celebrated to reaffirm our commitment to ending housing discrimination and to commemorate the passage of the federal Fair Housing Act in 1968. This month can be celebrated in a number of ways, including getting involved with fair housing advocacy efforts in your community, committing to learning more about fair housing on your own, or supporting organizations and movements working for equitable solutions.
IDENTIFYING AND ADDRESSING APPRAISAL DISCRIMINATION
Posted on March 14, 2022

This month on our blog, we’re discussing the unfortunate reality of Black homeowners who have resorted to whitewashing their homes in order to receive a fair appraisal estimate, as we shed light on bias in the real estate appraisal industry.
In Remembrance...
The Fair Housing Center is deeply saddened to announce the recent passing of several fair housing advocates and friends of the agency. Please join us in honoring and remembering these friends of fair housing, all of whom have positively impacted so many lives.
Jeffrey Dillman (1963-2022)
The Fair Housing Center’s former Executive Director, Jeffrey Dillman, passed away on January 22, 2022 in his home in Durham, North Carolina. Jeff was a fierce advocate for fair housing and social justice and instrumental in building the foundation of The Fair Housing Center for Rights & Research today. Jeff served as Executive Director from 2005 – 2011. After his time at The Fair Housing Center, Jeff served as Managing Attorney and Co-Director of the Fair Housing Project at Legal Aid of North Carolina. He was a trusted colleague, friend and mentor to so many in the fair housing community and will be greatly missed.
Christopher Hamm (1964-2022)
Dedicated board member and friend, Christopher Hamm, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022. Our team is grateful for the four years Chris dedicated to The Fair Housing Center’s Board of Directors between 2018 and 2022. He also served as Board Treasurer since March of 2021. Chris was a strong supporter of fair housing, and, most importantly, a great person. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who knew him.

Harold Williams (1943-2022)
Former attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland and friend of The Fair Housing Center, Harold Williams, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022. Harold developed a passion for the law during undergraduate school and spent his entire legal career as an advocate for the poor. He forced the city of Cleveland to hire and promote more Black police officers, effectively desegregating the department, and stood up to predatory banks that illegally foreclosed on homes. Harold served on our board from 2009-2015. Our team honored him in 2017 with the Friend of Fair Housing Award. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Former FHCRR Staff Member, Darlene English, Joins the National Fair Housing Alliance
Please join us in congratulating The Fair Housing Center's former Director of Education & Outreach, Darlene English, on her new position with the National Fair Housing Alliance! Darlene will serve as NFHA's Associate Vice President of Education and Outreach, and will work closely with NFHA's Chief Operating Officer, Cat Cloud. With Darlene's passion for housing justice and over a decade of professional experience in fair housing education and outreach, we know she will excel in this new role, as she continues to be a fierce advocate for fair housing in America.
