A Message from Principal Dumar

Hello Bradfield Families!

I hope you and your families enjoyed a wonderful Spring Break. It is always nice to have a little R&R, but there’s nothing like being in the building with our Broncos. We sure did miss them.

It is hard to believe we are on the home stretch of the 2022-2023 school year. Time really flies by when you are having fun. We will be finishing strong as we continue to focus on academics and helping each Bronco grow as well as the many events on the horizon. Please check the calendar portion listed below for important dates such as: 3rd/4th STAAR Assessment, Family Picnic, Great Friends Day, 3rd-4th Bike Rodeo, Field Day and 4th Grade Graduation.

I hope everyone was able to attend this year’s Open House. It was by far one of the best I have seen thanks to the Bradfield staff and your children. A special thank you to Art Teacher, Ms. Cromley and PTA volunteers, Ashley Robbins, Erin Hodges, Erin Fuge, Catherine Evans, Jessica Perno, Ashley Palmer, Kelly Diehl, Annie Cochran, and Kamala Aboussie for organizing the event as well as the set up/breakdown. It was wonderful seeing the self portraits of our students.

It was hard to miss the excitement of Bradfield’s 2nd grade musical, Swamped. If you weren’t able to stick around to see it, you missed an outstanding performance which was standing room only. Thank you, second grade teachers Ms. Fischer, Ms. Knight, Mrs. Jones, Ms. Ulrich and Mrs. Young for pulling off a fabulous event for all of our families. A special thank you to Bradfield mom, Rocky Binswanger, and staff members Mrs. Kennemer, SRO Connel, Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Proudfoot and Mr. Dale and crew for helping behind the scenes. It was definitely a night to remember.

Thank you to our wonderful PTA for always going the extra mile to take care of the Bradfield staff. Not only did they provide a delicious to-go dinner for staff members who worked Open House but they spread an enormous amount of sunshine before we left for Spring Break. Thank you, for making us feel appreciated and extra special!

Change for Children’s was a powerful program benefiting Children’s HealthSM while teaching our children the importance of giving back to their peers in need. Thank you to our Broncos and families for partnering with the Women’s Auxiliary to Children's Medical Center in collecting coins to benefit the Pet Therapy program at Children’s Health. We are so proud of the overwhelming support and the students enjoyed having the opportunity to visit with the therapy dogs on campus. A special thank you to our counselor, Mrs. Adams and PTA volunteers, Meredith Baird and Jessica Rugg who helped coordinate this meaningful event. Stay tuned for the dollar amount raised to make a Change for Children’s.

The writer of last week was kindergartner, James Bright, from Ms. Anthony’s class. He explained how to ride a bike successfully. It’s definitely important to remember the steps or you might just fall. The good news is that once you learn to ride a bike, you never forget. Good job, James!

The writer of last week was fourth grader, Avery Miller, in Mrs. Barnes’ class. She wrote an argumentative essay in favor of “travel teams.” She had three key points why she believes they are beneficial. My favorite point was bringing families together as they travel to various places for competitions. I love her positive outlook on the topic. Great job, Avery!

We would like to extend our appreciation to teaching assistant, Linzie Mills who has decided to be a full-time mom and work from home. She has been a dedicated member of the Bradfield staff for the past four years and she will be dearly missed. We wish her the best of luck and know she will cherish these moments with her precious little son, Caden and her husband James. Thank you, Linzie!

I encourage you to check out the Broncoland spotlight below. This week’s highlights include: Science Lab, Kindergarten-Texas Day, 2nd Grade Musical.

I look forward to seeing you and your children at the front door!

Since August of this school year, Highland Park ISD has been using new instructional resources to teach students how to read and write based on proven methods and the science of teaching reading. The process of removing balanced literacy materials, including Lucy Calkins' Units of Study, has been a huge undertaking, but teachers are doing a phenomenal job!

At April 4th's Decoding Dyslexia meeting, parents will see a presentation from Amy Wood and Mary Webb, the two educators leading this English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) transition. Amy Wood is HPISD's interim Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Learning and the Director of Instructional Technology. Mary Webb is the district's Director of Instruction and a Curriculum Specialist. Together, they've been working closely with experts and teachers to revise the district's literacy framework and to effectively implement a new ELAR curriculum. While this change mainly impacts students in kindergarten through eighth grade, it's an important change and all parents are invited to see the presentation.

We expect this meeting will be well attended, so please CLICK HERE TO RSVP to ensure we have enough seats for everyone.

Bravo Broncos!

Our 2nd Graders delighted the crowd with their Musical, Swamped! We're so proud of you! Huge THANK YOU to our 2nd Grade Teachers for making this so special!! You went above and beyond! THANK YOU!

The Bradfield 4th grade Cub Scouts held their den meeting last month with Texas House Representative Morgan Meyer, who spoke with them about citizenship and the rule of law. The 4th graders are working toward their Arrow of Light, which is a special award earned only by a select group of Cub Scouts and is recognized by the Boy Scouts of America for life. We are so proud of our boys.

Kindergartner Rayan Shalabi takes his snap words with him when he travels.
