Village Economic Development

From the posts on social media to the interactions with Village staff, we know that businesses and residents alike want to know a little more about what economic development is and looks like in Lindenhurst – and what steps are being undertaken to increase the visibility and vitality of our community.

But first – what is economic development, and what does it look like for Lindenhurst?

Generally, economic development is the process of improving a community's economic well-being and quality of life by creating and retaining jobs and supporting or growing incomes and the overall tax base.

For the Village, our economic development priorities are broken down into four central focus areas that include:

  1. Business Retention, Expansion, and Recruitment: This focus area's efforts aim to support existing businesses, foster their growth, and attract new businesses to our area to ensure a thriving economy through a variety of strategies that include meeting with businesses, providing economic incentives, and simplifying regulations and permitting processes.
  2. Grand Avenue Revitalization and Redevelopment: This initiative builds on the earlier infrastructure upgrades along Grand Avenue and the approved Grand Avenue Redevelopment Plan to attract new businesses and support existing ones in the corridor.
  3. Placemaking and Business Marketing: Placemaking is an urban planning approach to urban planning and design to create vibrant, attractive, and sustainable public spaces that meet the community's needs. This is supplemented with business marketing to create a consistent message that Lindenhurst is the place to work, live, and play.
  4. Supporting Industries and Businesses: The Village is always looking for ways to improve our services. One of the ways we're doing this is by conducting a business survey to better understand the strengths and weaknesses of working with the Village and gain more insight into how we can support our businesses!
