National Nutrition Month

A Healthy Eating Plan emphasizes:

1) Vegetables: 3+ servings per day 87% of Americans do not get the Recommended Servings per Day (RSD) 2) Fruits: 2+ servings per day 75% of Americans do not get the RSD. 3) Whole Grains: 2-3 servings per day 92% of Americans do not get the RSD. Problem: Too many carbohydrates from poor sources. Focus on those that contain whole grains (higher in fiber). 4) Proteins Most Americans do get enough protein. However too many are from high-fat and processed meat; too many from full fat dairy; and not enough from nuts, seeds, and legumes. 5) Additionally Drink 64 ounces of water per day (sugar free, sodium free, and fat free)! 33% of added sugars come from sugar-sweetened beverages (soda, diet soda, sports drinks, and fruit juice).  6) A Healthy Eating Plan Limits: Saturated and trans fats, sodium, and added sugars.
