ELDER OF THE MONTH - David Hughes

SPECIAL NEWS AND INFORMATION

SUMMER REFLECTION

In our society, we can get into the habit of expecting everything at our fingertips at the exact moment that we want it. Need something delivered to your house? Order it online and it shows up on your porch within a few days. Are you hungry? Let’s just run through the drive thru and pick something up quick. Have you heard the news? Pick up your phone and read the latest headlines about something going on in the world. And sometimes, we can transfer that habit to our spiritual life as well. We can rush through our time spent with the divine. However, as we continue into the lectionary, in the same invitation offered each week, I want to invite each of us and all of us to take a deep breath in and a deep breath out. So that we can begin to listen and read God’s Word not in an effort to rush through it, but so that it will transform us. So join us this Sunday as we continue to hear from God’s story in Matthew 9 and 10.

Yours In Christ,

Brandon

GARDEN HEALING

A small group gathered in the garden yesterday afternoon for meditation and to hear words of healing, forgiveness and love from Brandon. We were able to view the flowers and enjoy the tranquility of the moment and to pray. The garden will continue to bloom and grow and be restored. The missing arms and supporting bowls of the statue were found hidden among the undergrowth. Lanny and Brandon are attempting to get them reattached so the statue can once again proudly watch over the garden.

GREEN SPACE NEWS

From the book, The Ten Green Commandments of Laudato Si by Joshtrom isaac Kureethadam. A copy of the book is on order for our library.,

The main message of the encyclical can be summed up in terms of "ten green commandments" from Pope Francis.  They are as follows:

I. Earth, our common home, is in peril. Take care of it.

II. Listen to the cry of the poor who are the disproportionate victims of the crisis of our common home.

III. Rediscover a theological vision of the natural world as good news (gospel).

IV. Recognize that the abuse of creation is ecological sin.

V. Acknowledge the deeper human roots of the crisis of our common home.

VI. Develop an integral ecology as we are all interrelated and interdependent.

VII. Learn a new way of dwelling in our common home and manage it more responsibly through a new economics and a new political culture.

VIII.Educate toward ecological citizenship through change of lifestyles.

IX. Embrace an ecological spirituality that leads to communion with all of God's creatures.

X. Care for our common home by cultivating the ecological virtues of praise, gratitude, care, justice, work, sobriety, and humility.  (GSN #152b)

VIRTUAL CREATION ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK

THE NATURE OF BULGARIA

WONDERS OF NATURE (August 2021 | 20:16 min.)

Bulgaria is one of the few countries with very well preserved nature: Three National parks, nine Nature parks and many reserves (two of them included in the UNESCO list).

The chain of the Central Balkan National Park, Pirin and Vitosha mountains National Parks, Rila mountain with many mountain reserves, Rhodope mountain and in the far Southeast Strandza Mountain National Park and the local reserves, with their perfect woods and huge cliffs. The greatest autumn and winter migration in Europe, when thousands of rare birds fly the so-called “Via Pontica” way, can be observed on the Black Sea coast.

7 RILA LAKES - BULGARIA

HAI SA SOCIALIZAM! (August 2022 | 2:35 min.)

The Seven Rila Lakes are a group of glacial lakes, situated in the northwestern Rila Mountain in Bulgaria. They are the most visited group of lakes in Bulgaria. The lakes are situated between 2,100 and 2,500 metres elevation above sea level.

Each lake carries a name associated with its most characteristic feature. The highest one is called Salzata ("The Tear") due to its clear waters that allow visibility in depth. The next one in height carries the name Okoto ("The Eye") after its almost perfectly oval form. Okoto is the deepest cirque lake in Bulgaria, with a depth of 37.5 m. Babreka ("The Kidney") is the lake with the steepest shores of the entire group. Bliznaka ("The Twin") is the largest one by area. Trilistnika ("The Trefoil") has an irregular shape and low shores. The shallowest lake is Ribnoto Ezero ("The Fish Lake") and the lowest one is Dolnoto Ezero ("The Lower Lake"), where the waters that flow out of the other lakes are gathered to form the Dzherman River.

Glory Days: Trusting the God Who Fights for You

By Max Lucado

(248/LUC)

We all face them. Strongholds with a strong hold on our lives. Roadblocks to our joy. Obstacles in our marriages. Fortresses of fear blocking us from peace. How can we bring down these walls that keep us from the future God promises?

Remember the story of Joshua and the battle of Jericho? Those were some formidable foes and big barriers.

Max Lucado says the book of Joshua is in the bible to remind us of one thing: God fights for us! We can overcome, because He has already overcome.

We were not made to stand in the shadow of our walls and quake. We were made to stand on top of Jericho's rubble and conquer. We win, because God's already won.

Need a new battle plan for life? Keep walking, keep believing. These may be your glory days.
