Why come to church on a hot summer day? A LONG WEEKEND??
Because of the psalm.
We’re drawn communally for something that is deep and ancient and important beyond an easy explanation. An ‘inhabited town’, built by imagination and wisdom and the stories that matter. Let our souls be led and fed.
All are welcome at Saint Andrew’s.

Following a question posed at the AGM, Council dug deeper into our internal funds, such as the Building Fund, Benevolent Fund, Sunday Suppers Fund, etc.
This is to confirm that we do indeed maintain a Building Fund that is designated for large scale repairs or maintenance!

THE UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA ADOPTS
A BOLD NEW EMISSIONS TARGET
|
|
|
|
The United Church of Canada has committed the whole church to the aspirational goal of an 80% decrease in carbon emissions by 2030. This bold new target was set at General Council 44, currently meeting virtually in decision sessions.
This daring public commitment galvanizes every part of the church into common action to address the climate crisis, now become climate catastrophe. The new target accelerates a 2018 commitment that called for an 80% reduction by 2050...
In addition to dramatically addressing its own emissions,...the church is also committed to strengthening its advocacy at both the provincial and national government level for bold climate action... Recently, The United Church of Canada has also made deepening climate integrity one of the five strategic objectives of its national ministry.

St. Andrews' Social Justice Committee invites you all to join together as a congregation and as individuals, working towards achieving these bold new goals!

In all the myriad of ways you support Saint Andrew's, you are also supporting other individuals, organizations, and causes in the community. Here are just a few recent or upcoming happenings.
|
Through our Equity, Diversity & Inclusion projects, we financially supported the Dalhousie Campus Ministry and the DalOUT Student Retreat, which will bring together twelve 2SLGBTQIA+ student leaders. These students will focus on group-building, leadership development, and program planning, alongside the United Church of Canada's Chaplain on campus.
|
We are happy to be able to provide a last minute summer camp space for The Youth Project, a local organization for youth 25 and under, providing support and services around issues of gender identity and sexual orientation.
Camps bring together 2SLGBTQIA+ peers, where they can meet new people, try new activities, learn new things, and have fun. No homophobia, no bullying, all acceptance!
You help make Saint Andrew's a safe, inclusive, and accepting space so that The Youth Project feels welcome here.

The first annual Bangladesh Festival is being held this year on August 6 & 7th. The hosts, the Bangladesh Canada Friendship Society, reached out to us to rent our kitchen to prepare food for all the food stalls.
It is an HRM requirement that food served is made in a commercial kitchen, and we have dedicated non-profit rental pricing, which means we can support organizations like this with their needs by sharing our resources without breaking the budget.

Coming up in September, we are supporting the Parkinson Canada SuperWalk in Halifax by lending some needed supplies.
Their walk Coordinator reached out to us with an ask to borrow some supplies, since their operations were deeply impacted by the Covid pandemic and they simply cannot afford to rent tables, chairs, etc. for the event. Without hesitation, we said YES! This is a small, but impactful, way we can support a fellow charitable organization, and in turn, support folks living with Parkinson's.
Check out their event details below.

Join us at 10am on September 10, 2022 in Victoria Park to take part in the 2022 Parkinson Canada SuperWalk in Halifax.
Every September, Canadians from coast-to-coast unite to raise awareness and important funds for Parkinson Canada in our quest to improve the lives of people living with Parkinson’s and their care partners, and to ultimately find a cure for the disease affecting more than 100,000 Canadians.
To date, the SuperWalk has raised over $40 million to fuel research, support tools, and advocacy for People living with Parkinson’s.
