Understanding your health insurance options can be confusing, but it's essential. You might have different choices depending on factors like your age, medical needs, income, and where you live. Choosing a plan is not just about the monthly premium you pay. Before you decide, take time to look into copays, deductibles, and coverage limits.

Join us for one of our FREE virtual learning events this month, where we’ll show you how to more objectively compare plans to find the one that best meets your medical and financial needs.

Join us this Saturday, April 13th, at 12pm ET or Tuesday, April 23rd, at 7pm ET.

You’ll receive a free plan comparison spreadsheet and we will walk you through how to use it.

This 30-minute session is being offered twice, so that you can find the day and time that works best with your schedule.

Again, these events are free, but registration is required.

Health care coverage is crucial because it helps you pay for care when you're sick or injured. Even if you're healthy now, unexpected accidents or illnesses can happen... and drain your savings. Health insurance works by pooling money from many people, so that when you need it, there are funds available to pay for your medical expenses.

Once you have health insurance, you’ll want to know how to get the most benefit from your coverage. You might have to pay a deductible before some of your coverage kicks in. Preventive care, like check-ups and screenings, is often covered without additional costs such as copays or deductibles. Understanding the paperwork your insurance sends you is important, too – read it carefully and keep records of everything.

Sometimes, insurance companies deny coverage for treatments or services. If this happens, you have the right to appeal their decisions. Your doctor’s office may be able to assist you in the process. If you're still having trouble, the Kentucky Department of Insurance might be able to help you.

Understanding your health insurance and knowing how to navigate it is crucial for your well-being. If you're unsure about anything, don't hesitate to ask for help from trusted sources.

We want to share some of the great work being done by our Community Partners. Last month, the team at North Central Area Health Educational Center (AHEC) held a Health Care Coverage Literacy Workshop at the Kenton County Public Library branch in Covington, where they presented materials developed in partnership with TAI.

Other organizations taking part in this event were kynect, the Kentucky Department of Labor, Bluegrass Care Navigators, CAC, Leila Urgent Care, Health Connections Direct Primary Care, and Anthem Medicaid.

This past week, TAI Founder and CEO Dr. Susan Bornstein presented at the Kentucky Conference on Health Communication.

She shared information about TAI and project partners' efforts to educate Kentuckians about health care coverage and reported on data that has been collected so far. Our Health Care Coverage Literacy Program is funded through a grant from the Kentucky Department for Public Health Office of Health Equity.

TAI also had a poster displayed at the conference presenting data collected during our 2022 survey detailing Kentuckians' attitudes on health care coverage.
