Coming Up at St Columba's
Fish and Chips Dinner
Sunday, 26th March
5:00 pm & 7:00 pm
Our annual fish and chips gala is coming up! Sunday, 26th March we'll have two seatings, the first at 5pm and the second at 7pm. We'll have the place set up in authentic English Pub style, and there will be baskets of freshly cooked white cod, with authentic English chips, and of course a side of mushy peas! A selection of speciality and craft beers and wine will be available as well as a delicious dessert and more! Tickets are $20 per person through Sunday. After Sunday, ticket price increases to $25. It's a fun night and a fundraiser for a good cause!

Our goal is to sell 100 tickets by the 19th... we're at 60 so far. Help us reach the goal -- buy your tickets today (invite your neighbors, family, and friends too)! If you can't attend, perhaps consider making a donation to help offset the costs.

Proceeds will benefit the playground and other youth program needs.
Youth Group Time Change
This Sunday, 19th March, 12.30p
EYC will meet this coming Sunday (3/19) after the 11.00 am Mass: 12:30 - 2:00 pm. We'll be getting some of the preliminary things ready for the Fish and Chips dinner. We need lots of youth volunteers to help with the set up this Sunday. We'll be done between 1:45-2:00pm.

Next week (26th) we'll need all youth to arrive by 3:30 pm to help with setting up and serving for the Fish and Chips dinner. Youth should wear white button down (collared) shirt and black/dark pants. All middle and high school youth are asked to help out. See Father Tripp for more details.

Sunday Mornings
"Basics of Believing: In Depth"
9:30 - 10:30 am
Our Sunday morning forum this Lent will look at what Christians believe about God, the Incarnation, Resurrection, Scripture, Miracles, Sacraments, and Community. This class will be a great program for anyone new to the church, new to the parish, or preparing for confirmation. The adult forum meets in the narthex. Grab a cup of coffee and bring your Prayer Book and favorite Bible.
Wednesdays in Lent
Stations of the Cross
"Setting Out In Great Hope"
Wednesdays, 6.30 pm
Beginning 8 March, we will pray Stations of the Cross every Wednesday evening beginning at 6.30 pm. When the weather permits, we'll use our outdoor Stations of the Cross; otherwise, we'll walk stations using the indoor stations in the church.

spiritual nature of walking Stations of the Cross.
Lenten Series
"Angels - Their Beauty, Grace, & Meaning"
Wednesdays, 7.15-8.00 pm
"O higher than the cherubim, more glorious than the seraphim, lead their praises . . . " Angels appear in some of the most significant stories of Scripture: the story of creation, the Annunciation to St Mary, the dreams of St Joseph, the shepherds adoration, the empty tomb of Jesus at the time of His resurrection, to name a few. This Lent we'll explore these stories of Scripture and discover how angels show us the very thoughts, heart, and will of God and what God is doing even now as we 'entertain angels unawares." Join us for dinner and the program each Wednesday after Stations of the Cross.

Maundy Thursday Vigil Watch
Will You Watch With Me One Hour?
  • 6th & 7th April
  • Maundy Thursday, 9pm through Good Friday at 12 noon

Traditionally, the faithful have kept a constant prayer vigil, or "watch," at the Altar of Repose from the conclusion of the Maundy Thursday Mass until the start of the Good Friday Liturgy.

Recalling Jesus' request of the disciples, "will you stay and watch with me even one hour," we keep a prayer vigil before the Blessed Sacrament. It's an incredibly moving experience and everyone is invited to keep watch. A deputy sheriff is on duty throughout the night as parishioners come and go from 9pm Maundy Thursday through 12 noon on Good Friday.

You can sign up via the link below or on the poster in the Narthex near the Welcome Center. The online sign up has spaces for 4 volunteers per hour; however there is no maximum limit. If the hour you wish to come is filled, please come anyway.

>> CLICK HERE to sign up to keep watch.
Easter Egg Donations Needed
easter-egg-hunt-2013
Our children's Easter Egg Hunt will take place Easter Morning (4/9) at 9.30 am. We're asking everyone to help by donating pre-filled plastic Easter eggs between now and Palm Sunday. We need approximately 700 eggs for our Easter Egg Hunt. There is a large basket in the narthex by the Welcome Center where you can drop off eggs.
Coffee Hosts Needed
The coffee guild is in need of additional help on Sunday mornings. We provide the coffee, pastries, juice and other goodies that we all enjoy so much before and after each of the services. We have teams on the 1st, 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month that divide up the duties in whatever way best works for their team. The greatest need is help on the 1st Sunday of the month, but we can use help any Sunday morning. Please speak with Wendy Lambert wendyclambert7@gmail.com or with Laura Dillon ldillon0881@yahoo.com for more information or to sign up.
Chalice Bearers Needed
We need chalice bearers for both the 8.30 and the 11.00 Sunday Masses. No experience necessary - all high school youth and adults are welcome to serve. If you'd like to learn more, speak with our verger, Jerry Adams, or a member of the clergy. You serve as often as you'd like by signing up using the online rota for the Mass at which you'd like to serve. See the button below for the online rota.
Urgent Plea: Pantry Items for The Place of Forsyth
The Place of Forsyth is currently experiencing a double whammy in their food distribution program; low inventory and increased need. Last year over 7,300 people turned to The Place for help. In the last quarter of 2022, they fed over 320 households (1,900 individuals) per week! You can help replenish the low inventories by donating the following food and non-food items. Food Items: Canned chicken, tuna, fruit, vegetables and pasta; Peanut butter & jelly; Spaghetti noodles & sauce; Sugar and Flour (<2 lb bags); Cooking oil. Non-Food Items: Toilet paper, Paper towels, Laundry detergent, Adult & Baby diapers, Feminine Hygiene Items, Cleaning supplies. Place your donations in the wicker basket in the Narthex. Items are transported weekly to The Place (https://www.theplaceofforsyth.org/).  If you have any questions regarding this outreach activity, please contact Tom Dillon (tommlaura@yahoo.com). Thank you again for your continued generosity. Your donations have a real and immediate positive impact on our neighbors in need.

Take on a Mid-Week Lenten Program This Lent: You'll Be Glad You Did!
Wednesday Evenings
  • 6.30 - Stations of the Cross
  • 7.15 - Dinner and Program
  • 8.15 - Sung Compline

Lent is that 40-day journey preparing us for our celebration of Easter, and the season begins Ash Wednesday. The three hallmark disciplines of Lent are prayer, fasting (self-denial), and almsgiving. How can this Lent be more intentional for you? How might you grow your faith in new and refreshing ways? What might you give up this season that will help you focus on your life of prayer, devotion, and service in Jesus' name?

Perhaps part of your Lenten journey can include our Wednesday evening program. We'll begin each Wednesday by walking the Stations of the Cross and then gather in the Narthex for a light meal (soup and salad) and our lenten program, "Angels: Finding Grace, Beauty & Meaning thru the Messengers of God." The evening concludes with a candlelight sung Compline.

All are welcome; the program is designed so that each week stands on its own - attend as your schedule allows. Come for one, two or all three of the Wednesday evening programs. Click the button below to view the full details in our Lenten Brochure. A schedule for dinner hosts is posted in the Narthex. We'd love to have volunteers provide the soup, salad, and bread that make up our Wednesday light supper.
