Sea King Sunday Update

Dear Sea King Families,

It was another busy week at PVHS and we have another one coming up!

Last week, PVHS hosted our first blood drive on campus since 2011. We had over 70 participants from our Sea King community at the event on Friday. Thank you to the PVHS Red Cross Club for organizing this important life-saving event!

Also on Friday, our Be the Change class hosted our annual Remember the Tritons Walk, where we had over 200 Sea King participants in the color walk and fun activities fair. With the generosity of our PVHS community, we were able to raise $25,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. A special thank you to our BTC students and their advisor, Mrs. Kostrencich for their hard work and dedication to this amazing event!

This week, we have several important events taking place for our Sea King community. On Thursday, our PVHS students and staff will be participating in a full school evacuation to the Lunada Bay Little League field. This is an important opportunity for us to simulate evacuating our campus as a full school community.

As we head into the spring, many of our juniors and their families are turning their focus to college planning and preparing for their senior year. Here at PVHS, we are privileged to have amazing college programs available through our College and Career Center. I encourage our families to take advantage of the events and programs that are offered by our CCC and counseling department. This Tuesday, March 7th at 6 pm, the CCC will present a college planning event, The New Reality of College Admissions. This program will discuss the ever-changing landscape of college admissions and provide parents and students with insights and advice on how to navigate the process. This is an event not to be missed for all our families!

And finally, I look forward to seeing many of you at PV Golf Club on Friday at Catch the Wave 2023!  The Online Auction is OPEN and ready for your bids!  Please take a look and support our PVHS Booster Club and the 3 A’s – Academics, Arts, and Athletics.  There are some great items this year, including priceless PVHS Graduation Seats.  Click here to register and start bidding!

Have a wonderful Sunday and see you around campus!

Sincerely,

French 1 Classes Learn about Mardi Gras in the French Speaking World

Bonjour!

Did you know that Mardi Gras is the grand finale of Carnaval season? Carnaval season starts on January 6th with la Fete des Rois and is celebrated throughout the Christian world. This week the French program learned about how places in the French speaking world celebrate Carnaval such as Quebec, France, and New Orleans. The highlight of the celebration was eating New Orleans style king cake (miam!), wearing purple, green, and gold Mardi Gras beads, and sharing cultural trivia. French 1 made festive Mardi Gras masks just as the parade participants would be required to wear while on their parade floats in NOLA. The masks promote anonymity and erase social class.
