Egg Stuffing Volunteers Help Prepare for Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Susanville’s annual Community Easter Egg hunt will be held Saturday, April 16th, at the Lassen County Fairgrounds with lots of candy-filled eggs thanks to some wonderful volunteers who spent Thursday afternoon at the fairgrounds stuffing the plastic eggs.

Nearly fifty volunteers came to help stuff the 11,000 eggs that will be strewn about the fairgrounds’ lawn on the morning of the hunt.

Thanks to our volunteers from Richmond 4-H, Lake 4-H, FFA, CSF, LHS Drill Team, Junior Fair Board, CACC, Lassen County Public Health, Judge Mallery, Eskaton Manor and several really nice families and individuals who showed up. Thank you to everybody for your help!

The Community Egg Hunt is free to all local kids to participate, just come on down and join in the fun.

The gates open at 8:30a.m., on Saturday, April 16th, and groups start at 9:00 with a different age group starting every 10 minutes.

The group also works closely with the young women and girls of the community – hosting empowerment workshops, and sponsoring the S-Club; a group of junior high, high school and college student community service clubs.

Salt Distributed for Lassen Herds
April 8, 1950

Elmer Doty, Lassen County game warden, has just finished distributing nearly two tons of block salt in 50-lb. blocks to the deer over a wide area between Secret Valley and Red Rock. The project which took two weeks to complete, was done in a jeep which took him to places normally could not be reached in a car.

The salt was made available through Lassen County Sportsmen’s Conversation League, Mr. Doty said, and is placed out now because the deer herds are in the poorest condition of the year. They cannot get enough of the essential salt from natural licks because they are too few in this area.

While the deer in this particular area are in poor shape, those in the territory beyond Doyle are in a worse condition, Mr. Doty said.
