Updated Guidelines for Meetings and Gatherings
  • Indoor meetings can resume. Staff may opt to wear an N95; however, staff must wear an isolation mask when indoors.
  • Staff should observe normal room capacity limits with the maximum number of attendees for indoor meetings capped at 35.
  • No food or drinks are permitted (per UCSF and ZSFG) for indoor meetings.
  • Outdoor meetings may resume. Food and drinks are permitted. Maximum number of attendees is based on the normal parameters for the outdoor location. Staff may opt to wear masks at outdoor gatherings.

The conference room will be rearranged to accommodate the new guidelines. RSVPs to attend the DEM Seminar Series, in-person, will no longer be needed.

Spring Forward
This Sunday, March 13, is spring forward. Remember to set your clocks forward by an hour.
Report on the Status of Women Faculty in the DOM
The idea for the report came from the results of a Department of Medicine wide survey conducted in 2018, in which the Department leadership found clear differences in the perception of faculty experience by gender. Female faculty, who now make up more than 50% of our faculty, had lower survey scores on several dimensions of culture, including perceived equity, self-efficacy, and institutional support.

Teaching Critical Race Theory in Medical School
"To say that I learned nothing about race in medical school would be false. I learned that race was a risk factor for nearly every disease. I learned that you calculate kidney function differently for Black patients. I learned that if a board exam question mentions a patient’s race, it is probably to clue you in to the right answer. These things were taught to me as scientific facts."
