NOTES FROM YOUR HOUSTON SCBWI REGIONAL CO-ADVISORS

Greetings from your Co-RA!
Sending greetings to my fellow creatives as the summer’s end is in sight! (Say it ain’t so!) I hope you have had a wonderful summer full of writing, illustrating, or even a vacation somewhere exotic to get those recreative juices flowing. I enjoyed hosting my very first monthly meeting this July! It was such a pleasure to spend time with everyone in attendance. Our next meeting is on August 1st. We will be chatting with Sara Megibow. Bring your publishing questions with you to the meeting.
Looking ahead, we have so many things in the works. Some of them are pretty down-low for now. But I can share that we are planning a few in-person mini-workshops. This will give us all more opportunities to mingle a little while also tweaking our crafts.
Quick reminder: We have several volunteer positions available for the taking: Critique Group Coordinator, Membership Coordinator, and PAL Coordinator. If you would like to join the crew, please consider applying.
We are always rooting for you all! If you have any suggestions or comments, feel free to reach out.

This month's topic: PROFIT STRATEGY IN PUBLISHING: Behind the Scenes

How does an agent craft profit-strategy for her authors? Sara will go behind-the-scenes to share how distribution, formats, subsidiary rights and publicity affect profit and how authors can evaluate these things to make great choices for their own author careers.
Sara Megibow (she/her) is a literary agent with kt literary out of Highlands Ranch, CO. She has worked in publishing since 2006 and represents New York Times bestselling authors including Rebecca Roanhorse, Casey McQuiston, Margaret Rogerson and Jaleigh Johnson. Sara specializes in launching debut authors and working on long-term career development and profit strategy with them. She is a graduate of Northwestern University with degrees in Women’s Studies, Gender Studies and American History. Always LGBTQIA+ Friendly!
