Principal Warner Announces Retirement
Last month, our longtime NHS Principal Daniel Warner shared with the school community his official announcement of his upcoming retirement at the end of this school year.
Superintendent Dr. Peter Cummings shared a letter about the news and stated the sentiments below:
"Mr. Warner has been a driving force here in Narragansett since first joining our district in 1999 as NHS Assistant Principal and then serving our high school as its principal for the past 20 years. He has led Narragansett High School through meaningful improvements, including the introduction of Advisory, the growth of Career and Technical Education pathways, expansion of AP and college credit opportunities, development of the Senior Project, and many other programs. Dan has done so while always understanding the unique needs of high school students, and has helped our students build the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind that lead to success in college, career, and life.
In particular, Mr. Warner has helped to build a culture and climate at Narraganset High School where students are known, cared for, and supported through the challenges and opportunities of adolescence. The NHS faculty and staff work as a team on behalf of our students, and our high school continues to be a leader in the state in innovative and thoughtful programming. Dan has been an exemplar of working with the community to provide opportunities for students, and the many scholarships and other supports our students receive are a testament to his ability to build meaningful relationships. Dan’s leadership has helped our faculty provide wonderful learning opportunities for our students and he leaves the school in excellent shape, poised for continued growth and accomplishment.
I will personally miss Dan’s engaging good humor, thoughtful problem solving, and sound experience. Serving as a high school administrator is not an easy task, yet Dan has always approached his work and responsibilities with appreciation, enthusiasm, and enjoyment. Dan is a person well suited to working with teenagers, and I am grateful for his commitment and service to our students, community, and state. I hope you join me in wishing Dan all the best in his well-deserved retirement."
Our district has begun the search for Mr. Warner’s successor immediately, so please be on the lookout for requests for input to help us create a leadership profile to guide our selection process. Our hiring committee will include faculty, staff, students, and parents. We hope to have a new Principal under contract in the early Spring with a start date of July 1, 2023.

Narragansett Prevention Resources
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Youth mental health became a very hot topic during the early days of the Covid pandemic. Questions were asked: How were children dealing with uncertainty, fear, isolation, and loss? Although we have shifted back to a more “normal” way of life, there is little doubt that the trauma of the pandemic the
world experienced has left lasting effects on many people…many of them children. The data that has been compiled answers those early questions and tells the story of the effects on our youth. The mental health of our local youth is an important conversation for communities to have. If you feel like you don’t have enough information or that recognizing mental health challenges in youth is not in your wheelhouse, we are happy to share a fantastic upcoming free resource with you.

In QPR you learn to “Q”uestion about potential suicidal thought; “P”ersuade them to seek help; and “R”efer them for professional assistance.
These trainings are held the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 6:00pm.
To register for a February QPR session on 2/7 or 2/21, CLICK HERE

It's CTE Month at NHS!
We're so excited to celebrate national CTE Month at Narragansett High School!
To help kick off this month focused on our hands-on programs for high schoolers across Rhode Island, students in the Educator Preparation Program created a colorful bulletin board to celebrate all the exciting work going on in our career and technical education programs.
This encourages NHS students to explore the programs and electives they have access to in Agriculture Science, Information Technology and Computer Technology, Educator Preparation, Mechanical Trades, and our newest program, Digital Media Production.
Also, some exciting news from The Educator Preparation program: They are getting ready for a visit on February 13th from the Dean of Education at URI, Dr. Danielle Dennis, and a team from Central Falls High School led by Catherine Rickert, Director of Workforce and Resource Development.
NHS senior Educator Prep students will start off the visit with a brief overview presentation of our program.
Narragansett is looking to create opportunities for students from Central Falls and NHS to collaborate on projects and field trips. We are working hard to create a strong teacher pipeline to ensure that EVERY classroom statewide has a GREAT teacher! Stay tuned for an update from this visit.

NHS Students back at CS4RI for an Engaging Day Focused on Tech
On December 21st, NHS students were back at CS4RI hosted by University of Rhode Island!
CS4RI (Computer Science for Rhode Island) is a state initiative launched in 2016 by the Office of Governor Gina Raimondo to bring high quality computer science (CS) learning experiences to all students.
Our high school students who are a part of our Information and Computer Technology program as well as ones who are interested in this field at NHS were invited to view exhibits from all of the 2020 CS4RI High School Grant Recipients in an effort to expose students to high tech careers and recruit those interested into our own CTE program.
Our CTE students demonstrated their projects of robotics and Virtual Reality. Then, they attended special 45-minute sessions with companies such as Dan Berman from Computer Museum who presented a circular dial display workshop, Joe Mazzone from Coding Rooms who presented a hands-on workshop on creating your first mobile app, Suzanne Mello-Stark from Rhode Island College who presented a workshop on Mega Data and Digital protection and Rachel Barber from IGT who presented about pathways to jobs in her company.
Thank you to URI for hosting this event and welcoming us back for this informative day!
