Adopt A Pet from the Lassen

County Animal Shelter – Gus

Three adjectives to describe Gus? Large. Fluffy. Cuddly.

This boy is such a love. Staff at the Lassen County Animal Shelter knows his forever family is out there somewhere. All it’s going to take is one visit with Gus and bam, in love. He’s a big teddy bear; a true gentle giant. He’s lived with children ages 1 through 16 years. Truly, Gus is the best snuggle buddy ever.

animalshelteradopt image

Gus is 10 months old and gets along with doggy friends. He even previously lived with cats. However, Gus should not be around chickens/livestock. Additionally, potential adopters should research his breed. Gus is a Great Pyrenees mix. These guardian breeds need space and are known to dig, Gus is no exception.

If interested in meeting Gus, please contact shelter staff at 530.257.9200 or come down for a visit. Be sure to bring dogs that already live in the home to the shelter for a meet and greet with Gus to ensure they get along prior to adoption. Gus is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, and heartworm tested negative.

Featured animals at the Lassen County Animal Shelter are available for adoption on a first-come-first-serve basis. According to California law, all adoptable dogs and cats must be spayed and neutered before leaving our facility. If interested in adopting an animal, please contact the shelter directly.

Current shelter hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Closed Saturday and Sunday. You can contact the shelter at 530.257.9200.

Lassen County Short of Hay

April 8, 1952

Due to the acute shortage of hay in Lassen County, some ranchers are reportedly contemplating the purchase of hay outside the county, or from other areas of the county.

Lassen County agricultural commissioner, Ernest E. Fix, points out that agricultural products coming from outside the county, or from other areas within the county must be held for inspection, so that this office can determine if the hay is contaminated with primary or secondary noxious weeds or seeds.

The agricultural commissioner suggests that it would be the best to contact his office first and get information as to what ranchers should look for in purchasing hay.

Any hay being brought into the county or from other areas within the county containing primary or secondary noxious weeds ort seeds shall either be returned to its origin, or destroyed, Fix said.
