The Swahili word, "umoja" means unity -- and it's the theme of the first of the seven days of Kwanzaa. Enjoy these Kwanzaa coloring pages as you hear how family members can pull together, for their own good and the good of the entire community, demonstrating the seven principles of Kwanzaa.

Religious Education classes and activities are on break for the holidays. When we resume January 9th, classes will meet on Zoom, not in person. Please watch upcoming newsletters for information and bookmark the RE schedule posted here - this page will always have the most up-to-date schedule and information. Click here for a .pdf of that page, showing the revised January & February RE schedule.

We are are exploring online programming for 8th-12th grade Youth Group. Diane may offer stories or dance parties for young children. Online Children's Story Time with Barbara returns Thursday, January 6th at 7:15pm. And, we might play D&D online, for all ages (see the box below).

For additional information about Religious Education at CUUC, visit the RE overview and schedule and our CUUC website calendar

Music for our online Kwanzaa celebration Sun Dec 26 includes solo piano works by composers of African descent following Spirituals and a song of unity in the struggle for civil rights as Gathering Music. While I'm not bold enough to take requests out of a mystery box, for our Sun Jan 2 service I've reflected on feedback received over many years of music-making at CUUC to create this morning's "Greatest Hits" program. Happy New Year, all! Click here to read Adam Kent's blog posts.
Congregation & Community News
Mitten Tree Continues

Because we are no longer meeting in the sanctuary, our Mitten Tree has moved! Bring your donations of gloves, hats, scarves, socks, and underwear to the porch of Mary & John Cavallero, 42 Wyndham Close, White Plains (first right on Bryant Ave from North Street). We will collect until Sun Jan 2. Give the gift of warmth to individuals and families living at local shelters.
From the Refugee Resettlement team

Bunk Bed Needed - We are still looking for an immediate donation of a bunk bed with mattresses for one the Afghan refugee families we support. Contact Paula Meighan (paula.meighan74@gmail.com) or Robin Rocchi (robinandal@verizon.net).
Office & Staff on Holiday

The CUUC office will be closed and staff will be on holiday break from Fri Dec 24 to Sun Jan 2. Happy Holidays! Remember, the office is always closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
Dungeons & Dragons

Calling all Adventurers! Tracy and Raquel attended a D&D training with a group of UUs and it was fun! They suggested some great modifications that ground play in UU values. Do we have any players or DMs out there? Would you be interested in playing? All ages and experience levels are welcome! If we have someone to act as DM, we would play online until we can meet in person again. D&D allows players to have adventures full of endless possibilities and surprises as they create a story together. If you are new to D&D, read more about it here. If you’re interested in participating, contact Tracy (cuucwptracy@gmail.com).
Appeal for Minister's Discretionary Fund

The need for the Minister’s Discretionary Fund has been greater than usual and our balance has fallen low. The fund allows Rev. Meredith to provide confidential assistance to those experiencing financial hardship. Please consider a donation to help us replenish the fund and once again give our minister the ability to help others. Make checks out to CUUC with the memo “MDF” or “Discretionary Fund.” We are also accepting donations of Shoprite gift cards, which can be left in the black plastic bin on the office door.
Caring & Sharing

If we can help you or someone you know in our congregation, please reach out to this month's primary caregivers: Astrid Rogers (914-525-8747, astridrogers@aol.com), or her backup Barbara Mair (914-391-5382, barbara.k.mair@icloud.com). You may also contact the CUUC office (admin@cucwp.org).
Share the Plate for December: Coachman
This month we share half our non-pledge collection with the Coachman Family Center. Located in White Plains, the Coachman is a 100-room shelter that provides housing and services to local families in need. The center is affiliated with Westhab, a nonprofit focused on affordable housing, whose motto is "building communities, changing lives." Make checks to CUUC with the memo "Share the Plate" and put in the Sunday collection or mail. Or click here to pay online and select "Share the Plate" to split your donation with CUUC. You may also select "Other" and specify "Coachman Family Services" in the note if you'd like your full donation to benefit the group.
