Chairmans' Message
While governments, corporations and organisations focus on the need to reduce emissions with target reductions nominated across various timelines, bureaucratic red tape continues to hinder vital landscape regeneration works that could have a potentially greater positive impact on our climate and extreme temperatures.
These works will restore ecosystems and enable the Earth’s water cycle to once again naturally regulate the temperatures on this planet. We truly need a national approach to fix this!

National agenda
Mulloon featuring on ABC Landline!
Tune into ABC TV’s Landline program this Sunday 12 March 2023 for a feature on the Mulloon Institute’s work and its push to develop a national code to make landscape rehydration works more accessible to farmers and landholders around Australia. Screening time is 12.30pm. It will also be viewable on iView afterwards.
Calling for a national code
The Mulloon Institute is lobbying for a National Code of Practice for Landscape Restoration and Rehydration. This would integrate the many environmental safeguards that protect water quality, biodiversity and cultural heritage into a streamlined compliance process, making landscape rehydration more accessible for more farmers across Australia.

NEW Mulloon mentors!
Mulloon's new ‘Mentoring Program’ is now open to all bootcamp graduates who are ready to take on their own landscape rehydration project, wherever they are in Australia.

Growing a better world
We were excited to attend a marketing and networking event with Vitasoy Australia recently to explore how joint marketing efforts could be mutually beneficial for landscape repair.

Mulloon Rehydration Initiative
Leaky weir maintenance
Flow levels in Mulloon Creek have finally dropped enough for some much-needed maintenance of some in-stream structures. Three years of above average rainfall and high flow conditions has meant some structures which needed minor maintenance had to withstand conditions until it was dry enough.

Scientific monitoring
The science team have been busy maintaining instruments and collecting data with HydroTerra, while Dr Paul Cooper from ANU has been monitoring aquatic macro-invertebrates and water quality along Mulloon Creek.

Landholder's BBQ
Member for Monaro Nichole Overall and renowned landscape artist Lucy Culliton joined MRI landholders and the Mulloon team gathered recently to celebrate the initiative's progress.

Mulloon Creek Natural Farms
Autumn update
It was a dry finish to summer on the farms with February bringing hot, windy weather and below average rainfall. Long-term forecasts are for more dry weather and a return to El Nino, but for now the flats are still looking lush and providing quality feed for our cattle.

Beyond the back fence
Queensland
The first ‘Learning Programs’ course for 2023 has been held near Pittsworth, QLD for regenerative farming business F.A.R.M Agronomy, with a successful Landscape Rehydration Bootcamp.

Education
Catchment craftsman at work

The bells, whistles and plumbing works of the Institute’s brand-new catchment model are coming together in Gary McGuigan’s workshop! We know it's going to tell a great story of landscape rehydration – can't wait to have a play.

Styling our social media

Sharing science in the fast-paced environment of social media is a real challenge. Thanks to some skilled Institute for Water Futures students at ANU, we have a beautiful new Instagram portfolio suited to the task.

News + resources
While our work continues to expand across this country, it is just a drop in the ocean compared with what could be achieved if a national code was adopted. It is important to not waste anymore time.

Thank-you so much for your interest in our work and your valuable support.
With your help we can make a real difference!

Cheers,
Gary Nairn AO
