Director's Corner
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month (CAPM). Child abuse is preventable by increasing the protective factors like parental resilience, children's social and emotional health, parental knowledge of child development and parenting skills, concrete support for basic needs and social connections. These are things Ohio START helps families with every day.

The Ohio Children's Trust Fund will kick off its campaign “Help Create Positive Childhood Experiences, That Last A Lifetime” on April 7. PCSAO and member agencies will hold the annual Wear Blue Campaign Wednesday, April 13. We hope you will join us in wearing blue and posting your photo to the Ohio Wears Blue Facebook page.

Here is a quote that resonates this month:

“How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.”

Sober bar to open in Columbus
Columbus' first sober bar, The Dry Mill, is set to open April 30 in downtown Columbus. Two friends in recovery, Dave Payne and Collin Thomas, developed the concept as a place for people to hang out, spend time together and have a good meal and alcohol-free drinks. Their goals is to provide a space where people early in their recovery feel safe and welcome without being surrounded by alcohol. Read about the background here and the plans for opening here.
