The joy of reading, the discovery of ideas,
and the power of information.
Hello Prescott Public Library Patrons -

Happy National Library Week! Since 1958, the American Library Association (ALA) has sponsored National Library Week and each April it is observed in libraries across the country. ALA provides us with a few fun facts about libraries:

  • There are more public libraries than Starbucks locations in the US.
  • In 2016 there were 1.4 billion in-person visits to public libraries across the US. That's 2,664 visits per minute. Here at PPL, our visits are steadily increasing to between 800-1000 a day, which means at least 1.7 people walk through our door every minute.
  • 95% of public libraries provide summer reading programs for children. In the summer of 2021, 744 youth in Prescott participated reading a total of 567,380 minutes.
  • 100% of public libraries offer access to the Internet and 98% offer free Wi-Fi. Since July 2021, computers at PPL were used 20,000 times and Wi-Fi was used 86,500 times!

Stop by and see us during National Library Week. Although we serve thousands in our community, we want to connect with you.

I’ll see you at the library.

New Addition to "Library of Things"
A Library of Things is a collection of items that expand the boundaries of traditionally defined library materials. The collection supports lifelong learning and access to technology to increase the quality of life for our community. Through a grant* the library received 3 travel telescopes available for checkout!
* This project is supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal ARPA funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

One Stop Picture Book Shop
In a hurry and you just want picture books about trucks? Maybe your little one just loves unicorn books! If so, our “Books To Go" bags might be for you. Youth Librarians have identified several popular themes for kids. We then create a bag corresponding to each theme and fill that bag with a handful of great picture books. The bags, which are continually replenished or replaced, are displayed on a giant yellow "pencil" standing on end in the Youth Services area. Stop by and check them out!

Whitelist Us!
If you have ever placed a hold on a library item, then you know how exciting it is when you get notified it has arrived. If email is the method you've chosen for notification, do check your separate folders such as promotions or spam, and add noreply@yln.info and sirsi@ils.yln.info to your contacts and list of approved email addresses. That "whitelisting" will ensure PPL email gets through to you! For assistance with this, visit the Ask a Librarian Desk, call 928.777.1526, or book time with a librarian!
