Sunapee Happenings
What a difference a day (and a Nor'easter) makes! Sunshine and daffodils Monday then abruptly… rain, snow, sleet and falling temperatures yesterday. Suspect someone, lulled by the sunshine and green grass, removed ice scrapers and snow tires from their car way too soon! Never fool with Mother Nature, especially as we approach “Love Your Earth Day” this weekend.

In Our Own Backyard
Lake Sunapee Protective Association (LSPA) is launching its new public awareness campaign to address the needs of Lake Sunapee's water quality this week. The "Let's Be Clear" campaign will focus on the primary causes of water quality decline and what individuals can do to help. The needs are urgent, yet the steps to create clean and healthy lakes, streams and watersheds are simple enough that each one of us can contribute the necessary means to make clean water a reality. Join us in making the Lake Sunapee Region a vital, vibrant, healthy place to live, play, and enjoy.

Earth Day Celebration Events
We have two exciting events to celebrate Earth Day this year
Beekeeping
Saturday, April 23, 1:00-2:30PM
The significant spring build-up of beehives is underway!  The queen is laying at or near full strength, and the colony, if big enough, begins to rear drones (male honey bees) in greater numbers. NH beekeepers are busy with hive management as winter transitions to spring. Join us for a 30-minute presentation by Science educator and Kearsarge Beekeeper Association member, Laurie Hardt, in the Pavilion to learn more about honeybees. The presentation will be followed by a hive opening and demonstration by Fells Beekeeper John Chadwick. All ages are welcome. Fells members: free. Nonmembers: $10 per family. Advanced registration is required as there is a class limit. To reserve email info@thefells.org or call 603-763-4789 x3.
Vernal Pools Walk
Sunday, April 24, 1:00-2:30PM
Can you hear it? Spring is finally in the air and amphibians all over are calling out as they emerge from our wetlands and vernal pools. Grab your muck boots and your curiosity and come to The Fells to discover the magic of a New Hampshire vernal pool. We’ll be looking for the eggs of our native salamanders and frogs and maybe catch sight of these remarkable creatures. This program is offered jointly by the John Hay Estate at The Fells and Lake Sunapee Protective Association. Fells and LSPA members free. Nonmembers: $10 per family. Advanced registration is required. To reserve your space, please email info@thefells.org or call 603-763-4789 x3. Meets at The Fells Gatehouse.

SPAMALOT AT NORTHERN STAGE
Experience the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table as you’ve never seen it before, complete with a bevy of beautiful showgirls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people.

‘Monty Python’s Spamalot” — lovingly “ripped off from the motion picture “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” — includes all the irreverence of the hit 1975 film parody of the Arthurian legend — from show-stopping song and dance numbers to a battle of baguettes to a flying cow. The 2005 Broadway production was nominated for 14 Tony Awards, winning three, including Best Musical.

“We all need to be happy coming out of the pandemic,” Carol Dunne, producing artistic director of White River Junction’s Northern Stage, said.

“People need to laugh,” she said. “We chose it a year ago in the middle of a COVID winter, and we wanted something that would delight people and make them forget their troubles.

“It’s hysterical. It’s smart. It’s stupid. And it has great heart,” Dunne said. “Ultimately it comes down to being a great Valentine to musical theater.”

Northern Stage is presenting “Monty Python’s Spamalot,” book and lyrics by Eric Idle and music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle,” April 13-May 15 at the Barrette Center for the Arts’ Byrne Theater. Read More
AN ILIAD
by Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare
April 14 - May 1

AN ILIAD is a modern-day retelling of Homer’s classic. Poetry and humor, the ancient tale of the Trojan War and the modern world collide in this captivating theatrical experience. The setting is simple: the empty theatre. The time is now: the present moment. The lone figure onstage is a storyteller - possibly Homer, possibly one of the many bards who followed in his footsteps. He is fated to tell this story throughout history.

“AN ILIAD is pure theater: shocking, glorious, primal and deeply satisfying.” - Time Out NY
“Spellbinding” - New York Times

The JESTER of Notre Dame
April 23 @ 7 pm

Alex the Jester is a charmer who knows funny. He has performed his physical comedy on Showtime, off-Broadway, The Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal, America’s Got Talent, World Performance Festival in Japan, The Singapore Arts Festival , Festival Internacional Chihuahua, and events around the world. He speaks a magical sounding gibberish called Grammelot that somehow makes sense to everyone, regardless of native toungue. Could this be due to his expressive face ? Maybe it’s the predicaments he gets in that are odd yet familiar. His dialect, costuming, music, charisma and wildly imaginative spirit transport you back to the days of the Medieval Fool. Your funny bone will never forget it!

Photographer Captures The Most Magical Scene Of Deer Enjoying Cherry Blossoms

When photographer Kazuki Ikeda took a trip to Japan's Nara Park a couple of years ago, he wasn't expecting to capture something this stunning! He'd organized a pre-wedding photoshoot set against the park's cherry blossoms, but it quickly became apparent that the surprise visitors — not the couple getting married — were the real stars of the show!
