T&C Sports Families and Friends,
If you’ve tried parking on a Saturday morning at T&C lately, you may agree that hunting for a space has become yet another sport that we are offering. April is, in fact, the busiest month of the entire year at T&C with six of our sports going full speed. Still, you have to love the energy once you get the kids out on the fields with their teammates.
We hope your season has been great so far, and we’re truly thankful for the hundreds of volunteers who are coaching and helping the leagues run. As we enter the final few weeks of the spring season, I encourage you to look for examples of good sportsmanship – from players, coaches and spectators – and let us know. We’d love to share them with the T&C community.
I want to let you know about two exciting changes with the T&C Sports staff. I’m thrilled to say that Doug Chappell is stepping into the role of T&C Sports General Manager. Doug is one of T&C’s most respected and knowledgeable leaders in the Optimist organization having served as a dad, coach, president of the baseball and football programs, and president of the Optimist Club. Doug comes into the role at a transformational time as we invest in more people and upgraded facilities to serve the youth sports community. There is no better person to lead the staff in the years ahead.
I’m also extremely happy to announce that Rich Swain has agreed to join the T&C Sports staff as our Director of Soccer. You may already know Rich in his roles as the coach of some of T&C’s premier level teams, or as the leader of the T&C Soccer Academy, or in his role as the soccer program’s Director of Coaches. In his expanded new role, Rich joins T&C Sports to lead our soccer program full time. Rich has a fantastic 20+ year soccer background as a player in England, as a coach and development leader with numerous youth soccer clubs, and in youth programs for Major League Soccer clubs FC Dallas and LA Galaxy.
I’ll close by encouraging you to read on about the upcoming opportunities at T&C this spring and summer. It’s been my honor to have served as the T&C Sports General Manager over these last three years. Youth sports is a passion for us at T&C Optimist and on the T&C Sports staff. When it’s done well, with caring coaches and supportive parents, youth sports can have a wonderful lifetime impact. That’s my hope for your kids.
Enjoy your spring.
Thanks,
