Opening Day of the Del Mar Racetrack

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club's upcoming 2023 summer racing season begins with Opening Day on Friday, July 21st and runs through Sunday, September 10th. Celebrating Del Mar's Opening Day is a local tradition with big crowds taking in world-class racing while showcasing their famous Opening Day hats. Opening Day is always a jam-packed affair, so residents in the surrounding area should expect traffic delays on Via de la Valle and local cross streets. The first post time on Opening Day is 2:00 PM, with the parking gates opening at 10:00 AM and entry gates opening at 11:30 AM.

In the spirit of Del Mar Races Opening Day, we cordially invite you to the Opening Art Reception this Sunday, July 16th, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, as we unveil this extraordinary collection at Solana Beach City Hall. Immerse yourself in the captivating artistry of Judy Neville Burks, an artist who skillfully captures the Power of Nature in her remarkable equine paintings, breathtaking ocean waves, vibrant plants, and mesmerizing sunsets. As a true "Del Martian", born and raised in Del Mar, Judy's artwork exudes the energy, focus, and powerful muscles of Thoroughbred racehorses. These unique works of art will be on display in the City Hall Gallery until the end of August.

Train Services Will Resume Through San Clemente

Train-only trips between San Diego and Los Angeles are returning just in time for Comic-Con, the X Games California Finals, and the start of the Del Mar Racing Season! Starting on Monday, July 17th, the Pacific Surfliner train service between Los Angeles and San Diego will once again have 10 daily round trips operating and will no longer require a bus connection between Irvine and Oceanside.

Solana Beach Senior Center Summer Activites

Summer is in full swing and even though the Solana Beach Community Senior Center is not meeting in person for the months of July and August, they still have a number of fun things going on to keep you connected. Numerous studies have shown that isolation is one of the WORST things for one’s physical and mental wellbeing. It’s important to stay connected socially each and every day. Join them this summer as their new summer schedule allows for a weekly gathering, trip or activity!

Senior Scam Prevention Workshop

Scams targeting seniors are on the rise and getting trickier to avoid as technology evolves. Attend this in-person special presentation on Friday, July 14th, from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM to hear from San Diego FBI Supervisory Special Agent Michael J. Rod and Victim Specialist Kara G. Hudson, who will discuss the most common scams targeting the older adult population, how to report them, and resources available to empower those who have been victimized. This is a Del Mar Community Connection and Solana Beach Community Connection program taking place at the Del Mar Town Hall, located at 1050 Camino Del Mar. Registration in advance is required.

City Council meetings are held in-person in the Council Chambers at City Hall. All meetings are also subject to cancellation. Please refer to the City's Public Meetings page for updates, meeting schedules, directions on submitting a public comment, or for more information

A reminder that the July 26th and August 9th Council meetings are cancelled for the summer break and the next regularly scheduled council meeting is August 23rd. Always check the City’s website for any Special meetings that might be scheduled.
