Celebrating Excellence 2022
Earlier this month, we recognized outstanding volunteers, corporate partners and their employees during our annual Celebrating Excellence events. This year’s event honoring our Regional Market took place at Bayou Pointe on the University of Louisiana Monroe’s campus. The event honoring Lincoln, Union, and Jackson Parishes took place at the Davison Athletics Complex on Louisiana Tech University’s campus.
The 2022 campaign total of $3,084,648 was announced by Rick Guillot, 2022 United Way NELA Campaign Chair. The 2022 Lincoln, Union, and Jackson campaign total of $868,391 was announced by Cathi Cox-Boniol, 2022 United Way NELA Campaign Chair for Lincoln, Union, and Jackson Parishes.
In addition to recognizing outstanding workplace campaigns, we invited several special guests from across the community to discuss some of our current collaboratives, initiatives, and partner programs.
We also honored the top 10 campaigns as well as special award winners at both events.

Ready4Service
Ready4Service is a United Way of Northeast Louisiana initiative that is designed to get 4th and 5th grade elementary students involved in community service. On Tuesday, March 14, four Jonesboro-Hodge Elementary School students were awarded for their outstanding performance as participants in Ready4Service. Mayor James Harris presented students Krisina Chen, Holly Coulter, Jazzeria Ellis, and Shan Stallings with plaques at the Jonesboro City Hall Meeting. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience thanks to the generosity of Mayor Harris!

Young Leaders UNITED: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Workshop
Join members of Young Leaders UNITED for a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion workshop, generously sponsored by Drax!
Alberta Brown Green, CEO of ABG Professional Development Solutions, will deliver a dynamic, three part presentation that will enhance your knowledge of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within your personal life, organization, company, and/or community. During this interactive training, you will be exposed to common barriers of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; how to create a diverse and inclusive personal, work, and community environment; and the Do’s and Don’ts of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This interactive presentation includes case studies as well as an open forum/table talk discussion.

READ.LEARN.SUCCEED. Report
Approximately 450 students participated in READ.LEARN.SUCCEED. from October 2022 to March 2023.
United Way of Northeast Louisiana is currently hosting 18 end of year READ.LEARN.SUCCEED. events or mobile parades for 18 partner schools from March 10 to April 28.
READ.LEARN.SUCCEED. students will receive 10 books in May to help build their home libraries and continue reading over the summer.

Leadership Spotlight: Rokesha Allen
United Way NELA Leadership Spotlight: Rokesha Allen
Rokesha Allen is the Director of Finance & Administration and serves on United Way NELA's Leadership Team.
Rokesha is accountable for the financial, legal, and risk management operations of the organization, including the development of a financial strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve organization assets and report accurate financial results.
Rokesha holds an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice (2002) and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting (2005) from Grambling State University, where she graduated Cum Laude, as well as a Masters of Accounting & Financial Management from DeVry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management (2011). She is passionate about learning new things.
Rokesha is a native of Texas. She and her husband, Terrance Allen, Sr., proudly reside in West Monroe, Louisiana with their three children, Johnny, Tamyra, and Terrance, Jr., and nephew, Greg. They also have one grandson. Some of Rokesha's favorite things to do are traveling, gardening, and spending time with family. In her spare time, Rokesha likes to attend her children's many extracurricular activities (band, dance, football, baseball, etc.) and volunteer as a United Way NELA READ.LEARN.SUCCEED. Reader.
