Message from the Principal
As I said last week, I always look forward to greeting our students after summer break.  As the first day of school is almost here, I am getting excited to see our HPHS hallways alive with laughter and Giant spirit.  Please be sure to see the Happening Next Week section for details about the special daily schedule for this first week of school and beyond.  Also, in case you missed it, please check last week’s family communication for important information about the start of the school year.

Now is a great time to get involved, both students and parents/guardians.  You may have recently received this communication from our wonderful PTO.  This page on the HPHS website details many organizations that support our students and our school and they are always wanting new members.

As we start a new school year, now is a great time to talk to your students about good learning habits, engagement in school, self-care and asking for help when needed.  We are all invested in the success of our students and want them to thrive while at HPHS.  One way to do that is to manage smart phone usage during the school day. Last year, it was not uncommon for me to observe students on their phones when they should have been focused on the teacher, peers or learning materials.  We know this is challenging for adults and even more so for young people. We hope you will partner with us in helping our students to use their phones when appropriate.

I am so pleased to be welcoming students, staff and families back to HPHS for the 2022-2023 school year.  GO GIANTS!

Student Life
ACTIVITIES
HPHS uses Remind to send text messages to students about HPHS Events!  We encourage all students to register to receive text messages to be reminded about upcoming activities.  These texts serve as an extra/immediate  reminder to information already appearing in the Giant Life News, HPTV and/or email.  Parents may sign up as well.  Use this link to learn how your students should sign up.
Remember to purchase your activity ticket/yearbook this fall!  You can find the link in the Infinite Campus School Store.  This fee ($135) is a bundle that includes a yearbook, free admission to athletic events and free admission to student-directed fine arts events (STUNTS & the Short Play Festival) using a student ID.  An activity ticket purchase also supports our school's literary magazine, school media/newspaper, all theater productions, assemblies, and all-school special activities.  Yearbooks are part of the Activity Ticket bundle and are not sold separately.

Stuart Rodgers is our official school photographer.  22-23 Yearbook/ID Photos will be held August 31 and September 1 via PE classes! Ordering this year will all be available online. Our retake/makeup picture day is November 2! Information will be shared via the Giant Life News. Student ID cards will be distributed the week after. In general, our photographers will ask students to remove any head wear or sunglasses for pictures. Exceptions will be made for daily medical and cultural items.

Class of 2023 - Seniors: Please make sure you complete your senior portrait soon! The sitting is free! See more information on the left of this page! Use this link to schedule an appointment now.

ATHLETICS
Student Activities & Athletics will host the Activities/Athletics Fair the week of August 22 - 26 during lunch periods.  Students are invited to attend and meet and greet members of the various clubs/teams HPHS has to offer.

Also, the Fall Sports Kickoff Meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 17 at 7:30pm in the student cafeteria.  We hope all Fall athletes and parents can attend.

The Giants Club, our parent booster organization, is hosting their annual Carnival on Sunday, August 21 from Noon-2pm at Wolters Field.  Look for more details on this event in next week’s letter.
Services and Supports
This year, maybe more than ever, it is important for all students to know that the Drop-In Center is available to them for support.
