Hello George!
As I often say, Spring is my favorite wine season of the year! New winery releases, warmer weather, seasonal produce, exciting wine and food pairings. A wine that is especially wonderful this time of year is Champagne! I was reminded of this on my visit to Champagne last year when I spent a week in Epernay, the hub city of the region. Everywhere I went, Champagne was being enjoyed. Lunch, dinner, aperitif... you name it, it was always being enjoyed. While I understand it was the Champagne region, the fact remained that it paired perfectly with many types of foods.
I dedicated this month's Wine Ed Index to Champagne, featuring its uniqueness of place, special flavor attributes, and its many styles. I urge you to move beyond thinking of Champagne as a celebratory wine but a wine to enhance the season's cuisine. A Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noirs, No Dosage, Tete de Cuvee or simply an amazing non-vintage Brut.
I hope you become a believer in Champagne. You deserve it!
Cheers,
George
