Bills Democrats have filed, let's be aware!

With Senator Bryan Hughes

I sure hope you all fared well last week during the winter storm that affected a lot us. Do not forget about our call that was rescheduled to this Friday. Sen. Hughes and Rep. Jetton will again be joining us for their regular updates. However Sen. Hughes is going to be going a step further this week and will be providing a briefing on three legislative efforts that you need to know about.

There is a redistricting bill that should be routine, but the Democrats are trying to play games with SJR 12. Democrats are also attempting to fundamentally change how we vote in local and federal elections. One bill would eliminate the electoral college and another would establish ranked choice voting. Be sure to tune in for the insider take on election bills being considered right now in Austin. Get the facts and learn what our elected officials are doing to push back on Democrat narratives.

Can't wait to speak with everyone soon!

Biden's State Of The Union Recap

  • Biden continues to tell the American people that things are strong but polling continues to tell a different tale and shows Americans believe Joe Biden is in a weak position:
  • Polls from Washington Post/ABC News, AP-NORC, and CBS News/YouGov all have Biden’s disapproval rating in the mid to high 50s.
  • A Washington Post-ABC News Poll shows 62% of Americans think Biden has accomplished “not very much” or “little or nothing” during his presidency.
  • 41% of Americans say they’ve become worse off financially since Joe Biden took office.
  • 60% say Biden has not made progress improving roads and bridges in their community.
  • 60% say Biden has not made progress creating good jobs in their community.
  • Even the majority of Democrats don’t want Biden to seek re-election.
  • In Biden’s economy, despite what he said tonight, not everything is fine and Americans are poorer:
  • Since Biden took office, real wages are down, incomes are down, and savings are down;
  • 166 million Americans say they’re living paycheck-to-paycheck;
  • Inflation has outpaced wage growth for 21 months;
  • Gas prices were $2.39 per gallon when Biden took office – and they’ve only gone up since;
  • Americans have lost $9,300 on average paying for the increased cost of living since Biden took office.
  • Tonight, Biden falsely blamed Republicans for wanting to cut Social Security and Medicare. Speaker McCarthy has repeatedly said this is off the table.
  • He also implied that America will not produce oil beyond the next decade.
  • Biden barely said 100 words on the border, and not a single one on the 1.2 million “gotaways” who have escaped into the U.S. on his watch.
  • In his address tonight, Biden didn't mention numerous issues Americans are concerned about.
  • The American people deserve better than Biden and Democrats’ runaway inflation, surging crime, open borders, and failing schools.
  • The state of our union is worse than when Joe Biden took office.

Republican Response: Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders

  • In the Republican response, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders highlighted the failures of the Biden administration while offering a clear path forward for our country - the Republican way.
  • As Governor Sanders highlighted, Democrats in Washington tax you and light your hard-earned money on fire, and Americans still get crushed with historic inflation, open border, and violent crime.
  • Republican Governors are leading the way in securing our border, supporting our children, and getting Americans back on track economically.
  • 13 out of the top 15 states with the
  • lowest unemployment rates and 9 of the top 10 states with the
  • highest percentage of jobs recovered since the pandemic began were led by
  • Republican governors.
  • 19 of the top 20 states for getting kids back for in-person learning
  • during the 2020-2021 school year were led by Republicans; 18 of the
  • bottom 20 states were led by Democrats. We’re still seeing the devastating consequences of Democrat-sponsored
  • lockdowns on children.
  • The choice is no longer between right or left. The choice is between normal or crazy.
  • Republicans believe in an America where strong families thrive in safe community and where jobs are abundant, and paychecks are rising.

The GOP is fighting told hold Biden accountable and for safe communities, jobs, and freedom from the woke mob in state capitals, and in Washington under Speaker McCarthy and the leadership of Senate Republicans.

Black History Month

“This month, we celebrate Black history and the significant contributions of Black Americans in making America the greatest country on earth. Republicans are committed to championing conservative policies that empower and promote opportunity, liberty, and justice for the Black community and the RNC is proud to stand with the Black community year-round through our engagement efforts to connect directly with all Black Americans." - RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel

What you need to know:

  • Republicans are committed to the Black community.
  • For the 2022 cycle, the RNC made a multimillion-dollar commitment to continue our strategic minority engagement efforts, including in Black American communities across the country.
  • Thanks to that historic commitment, Americans elected John James (MI-10) and Wesley Hunt (TX-38) to Congress, growing the number of Black Republicans in Congress to its highest total since 1877.
  • This commitment is not new; the Republican Party has a long history of electing Black leaders and empowering Black Americans through historic firsts.
  • In 1870, Republican Hiram Revels (R-MS) became the first Black American to serve in Congress as a U.S. Senator.
  • That same year, Republican Joseph H. Rainey (R-SC) became the first Black American member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
  • In 1879, Republican Blanche K. Bruce (R-MS) became the first Black American to preside over the U.S. Senate.
  • In 2003, Jennette Bradley became the first Black female to serve as lieutenant governor of any U.S. state.
  • In 2013, Tim Scott (R-SC) became the first Black American to serve in both chambers of Congress.
  • In 2020, Republican Mark Robinson became the first Black American elected Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina.
  • In 2022, Republican Winsome Sears became the first Black female to serve as Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor.
  • Biden and Democrat’s policies have hurt the Black community.
  • Black Americans are being left behind in Biden’s economy, burdened with higher prices and lower wages when accounting for inflation.
  • Inflation is disproportionately hurting Black households, with 54% of Black Americans stressed by high inflation.
  • Crime is on the rise in Biden’s America, often disproportionally impacting Black Americans in Democrat-run cities across the country.
  • Biden’s open border policies have allowed drugs like fentanyl to pour into American communities.
  • Democrat-run cities kept kids out of the classroom for far too long, despite the fact that these school closures have disproportionately hurt low-income and minority students.
  • Biden supported Democrat  vaccine mandates that disproportionality hit the Black community.

The bottom line:

Republicans are committed to championing conservative policies that empower and promote opportunity, liberty, and justice for the Black community.

Republican-Led States Are Driving Job Growth

While Joe Biden and Democrats deliver high gas prices and the worst inflation in 40 years, Republican-led states are delivering more jobs and lower unemployment rates.

What you need to know:

  • The Biden-Harris economic agenda has caused nothing but pain and misery for American families.
  • Americans are poorer under the Biden economy.
  • Workers want higher wages and under Biden’s economy, wages were at their lowest level in months.
  • Inflation is continuing to eat up any gains as it remains above 5%.
  • 72% of middle-class families say they are financially falling behind because of inflation.
  • The average American’s real disposable income is lower than when Biden took office.
  • Republican-led states are the ones creating jobs and leading the economic recovery.
  • Through December, nine of the top 10 states for jobs recovered since the coronavirus pandemic began are led by Republican governors, and all 10 states have Republican-controlled legislatures.
  • Out of the top 15 states with the lowest unemployment rates, 13 are led by Republican governors.
  • Americans are voting with their feet, with Democrat-run states seeing a mass exodus as families and businesses are flocking to Republican-led states.
  • For the first time in at least 40 years, there are now more jobs in Florida than there are in New York.
  • According to a report from the National Association of Realtors, California, New York, and Illinois lost the most people in 2022.
  • Republican governors and legislatures have built economic engines even in the face of massive inflationary headwinds from Joe Biden and Congressional Democrats. If you want an economy that works for you, vote Republican.

The bottom line:

Republican policies work. Republicans are delivering a faster recovery and lower unemployment rates for their states, setting an example that Democrats in Washington and across the nation should follow.
