Kings Transportation Update

This week, Kings parents were notified of an update regarding transportation for the 2023-2024 school year.

The Kings Board of Education approved the implementation of a 2.5-tier transportation model. This decision will create an opportunity for improved staffing levels resulting in less disruption in service. The new model also allows for efficiencies resulting in over $800,000 in cost savings over the next 5 years.

The new transportation model will require an adjustment to school start times at all buildings. We recognize this may be a change to family schedules and routines so we wanted you to be aware of this change in advance so that families can plan accordingly. Your child’s bus pickup and dropoff times will be available at the beginning of August.

School start/end times for each building for the 2023-24 school year are expected to be the following shown below.

KECC Preschool start/end times will remain the same.

Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Winner

Kings High School senior, Kanushi Navaneethakrishnan and Kings Warren County Career student, Lily Dorfmueller have been named recipients of the 8th annual Franklin B. Walter Scholarship Award. They were honored in a luncheon sponsored by the Warren County Educational Service Center and attended by several Warren County officials and elected officials on Friday, March 24, 2023.

Recipients of this scholarship are selected by virtue of their academic achievement, personal accomplishments, and community service. Each recipient also chooses a mentor and they recite a letter to their mentor during the awards luncheon. In Warren County, each district’s recipient is awarded a $500.00 scholarship from Warren County Educational Service Center. They also choose an overall winner who receives an additional $500 scholarship.

This year's overall winner was Kanushi from Kings. She walked away from the event with $1,000 in scholarship money. As Kanushi's chosen mentor, Kings High School Math teacher, Michelle West will receive a $250 stipend to be used for classroom/school use.

Kanushi is the daughter of Navaneethakrishnan and Nithya. She is an accomplished violinist and has had the opportunity to play with the Kings Orchestra, participate in spring musicals, and compete in prestigious competitions such as OMEA and the Royal Conservatory of Music.

Outside of music, she won the title of Best Attorney in a Mock Trial competition and holds leadership positions in several organizations, including Student Government, the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society, and Kings High School Women in STEM.

Kanushi plans to study Data Science and Neuroscience in college with plans to become a physician. She is still undecided on which university she will attend but has received several offers.

Lily was also recognized for her accomplishments. Lily is in the Cosmetology program at the Career Center. Superintendent, Joel King said that Lily has excelled in the program. She has already taken and passed the State Cosmetology Exam before anyone in her class. Lily is currently working at the Kim Harper Salon in Mason.

The Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award was established in 1989 by Ohio’s County Superintendents to recognize student achievement and promote academic accomplishment. One senior from each of Ohio’s eighty-eight counties receives this prestigious honor each year.

Congratulations to Kanushi and Lily on this prestigious honor!
