The work by Associate Professor Mugur Geana and by the Center for Excellence in Health Communication to Underserved Populations to strengthen the relationships between the University of Kansas and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile have been rewarded this month with the signature by KU's Chancellor Douglas A. Girod and PUCC's Rector Ignacio Sanches Diaz of an Agreement of Cultural, Educational and Scientific Cooperation between the universities, covering the following general forms of cooperation:
  1. Joint research and educational activities.
  2. Exchange of invitations to scholars (faculty, research personnel and graduate students) for lectures, visits and sharing of experiences.
  3. Exchange of invitations to scholars for participation in conferences, symposia and seminars.
  4. Exchange of information in fields of interest to both parties.
  5. Exchange of faculty, research personnel and students for study and research.
  6. Exchange of academic materials of mutual interest (such as scholarly publications, curriculum information and pertinent research reports).
The agreement constitutes the framework on which direct collaboration can be instituted between schools and departments from both universities. Proposed individual projects will have to be evaluated by both partners and must follow KU's policies for international collaboration and federal export control laws. Dr. Mugur Geana will travel to Santiago, Chile, in Spring 2022 to meet with partners from UCC's School of Communications and the School of Medicine to discuss research and collaboration projects. The travel is funded in part by a grant awarded to Dr. Geana by KU's International Programs. If interested in exploring potential collaboration with Chilean partners, please contact Dr. Geana and he will try to facilitate identifying appropriate contacts.

Associate Professor Carol Holstead was part of a panel on teaching for the school's Future of the Professorate program on Nov. 12.
