Fueled by the (2000) novel and (2003) film The Girl with a Pearl Earring, seventeenth century painter Jan Vermeer's popularity in the twenty-first century is very high. This slide lecture discusses a number of Vermeer's paintings and provides a historical context for each. This program will enrich the reader/viewer's understanding of the forces behind Vermeer's work. Paintings to be discussed include Woman Holding a Balance, Allegory of Painting, and of course Girl with a Pearl Earring.

Art Historian Jeff Mishur presents this slide lecture. Mishur is an owner of Art Excursions, a company that provides private guiding in Chicago, lectures, and boutique art and culture tours in the Unites States.
Join artist, Lindsay Budzynski, for a short discussion on the aspects of outsider art, self-taught/untrained art making, and basic drawing techniques. You will then have the opportunity to create your own unique drawing. Supplies needed: paper, pencils/erasers, ruler. Tracing paper, markers, or colored pencils optional. The Zoom meeting link will be emailed to you the week of the event.

Registration is required and limited to 15 participants, teens are welcome to register.
From The Jazz Singer to La La Land, from Meet Me In St. Louis to Moulin Rouge, certain musicals have had a revolutionary approach to cinematic storytelling. Challenging audiences with fresh and unusual styles of music and dance, these films dared to break the rules and reinvent the musical. We’ll view clips from Little Shop of Horrors, The King and I, Hair, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Bugsy Malone, An American in Paris, All That Jazz, and more!

Presented by retired teacher and film enthusiast Steven Frenzel of Marquee Film Talks.
Ice: it’s not just the stuff you shovel off the sidewalk. Many different ices are all over our Solar System – and it is really – ahem – cool stuff to study. We’ll investigate ices on hot planets and cold comets, moons made of a huge amount of ice, flowing and floating ice glaciers, and even ice volcanoes.

Presented by Astroeducator Michelle Nichols.
