Krasl Art Center Receives Three Challenge Grants
JANUARY 6, 2022, ST. JOSEPH, MI – Krasl Art Center (KAC) is known for engaging classes, dynamic visiting artist workshops, the nationally-ranked Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff, in addition to free world-class exhibitions and community programs. These opportunities are made possible through membership, donations, corporate sponsors, and generous grants received. KAC is pleased to announce the following grant awards, all of which require matching funds:

  • Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA) grants totaling $26,000.
  • MCACA Funding includes $3,214 in federal funds from the National Endowment for the Arts and $22,786 in state funds. This grant supports operations which include monies for administrative costs, facility usage, travel, marketing, publicity & promotion, and artistic expenses.
  • Arts Midwest GIG Fund totaling $2,500 for artist-led programming during KAC’s 2022 Biennial Sculpture Invitational this summer.
  • Frederick S. Upton Foundation Challenge Grant totaling $30,000 over two consecutive years, supporting KAC’s education programs.

Krasl Art Center invites the community to contribute to raise required matching funds totaling $40,285 for 2022. An individual donor campaign seeking $15,000 to secure the Frederick S. Upton Foundation challenge has been launched with a January 31, 2022 goal. KAC’s business sponsorships and general donations will be leveraged to secure the match for MCACA and Arts Midwest GIG Fund.

In Berrien County, 10 grants were awarded by the MCACA for a total of $170,026 out of the $405,796 requested. The MCACA peer review process allows each grant application to be competitively considered by a panel of in-state and out-of-state arts and cultural professionals. This ensures the taxpayers, who support this project through legislative appropriations, and all other visitors and residents in Michigan have access to the highest quality arts and cultural experiences.
