Greetings Eagle Chapter Members and Friends

I start this May Newsletter with kudos to Karl! Karl again obtained the support of the HQ USAF Band (Taps), Singing Sergeants Singer (National Anthem) and HQ USAF Color Guard (Posting the Colors) to provide an emphasis to the special reception/luncheon that our deserving Fallen Defenders Families whose loved ones will be added to the National LE Officers Memorial in Washington DC this year. Karl is the chapter's Vice Chair Air Force District of Washington Wing. Again, Karl - thank-you who also led in obtaining support from the 11th Wing for our chaplain. Eagle's Ian Caldwell, Vice Chair MD Wing, has volunteered to be our Master of Ceremony for the reception/luncheon.

Reception/Luncheon RSVP Tomorrow. May 3d is the final day to RSVP. We must turn our numbers into the club immediately thereafter. Pls see the link below to RSVP, if you have not already done so.

RSVPs for the Pentagon Tour Closes. RSVPs for the tour exceeded our expectations. Even with last minute cancellations, we have just over 25 RSVPs. Thanks to Phil Ferris, NLEOM Committee Member and our tour host, and Karl who helped make this a huge success.

DONATIONS. It's not too late to make a contribution to the reception if you have not done so. As it looks now, the families this year will exceed the gift amount that you helped us donate last year to ease their travel pain to the DC area. Use the QR Code or click here.

Thank-you all for your generous support and I look forward to seeing you at a future Eagle Chapter event! We need more members on our NLEOM Committee. Please pass the word.

Very respectfully,

//Lee//

Final Farewell Eagle's

Bill "Sarge" Garlitz of Ocean City MD

It is my sad duty to inform you of the passing of Sarge. He died Apr 16 after a short illness. If you were an AFSFA member a little over 20 years ago when we came about, and you lived in MD or Sarge had added you to his email list, you heard from Sarge via email. At the time, Sarge was the AFSFA MD State Representative. When AFSFA went to the Regional Director system, I offered Sarge an opportunity to be our Vice Chair of our MD Wing. Turns out this was a good time for him to retire. He declined, but he remained an active participant.

He surprised me when his American Legion Post #166 Ocean City MD became the first annual American Legion donor to our chapter. Without any campaigning from me, he felt our operation served their mission and they donated to us every year - doubling the amount a few years ago. His legacy will live on. I also visit Sarge's Uncle Joe at Arlington in my annual visits to the national cemetery.

Tomorrow, May 3, 1100 I will see his bride, "Rosie" and join them in Sarge's final services.

Thanks to Eagle's Jim Saulnier for alerting me to Sarge's death.

Minot 3 - Added to Eagle's NLEOM Committee

April 26, 1972, a horrible crash and three Defenders did not come home.

The next day, the Minot Daily News reported four men died - three were Security Police. We became aware of this incident via Facebook. The age of the incident made it very difficult to verify the information, so I turned to our genealogy expert, Kevin "Flash" Gracia, and he found several articles from Minot. He's now obtaining next of kin information before we contact the commander to start our process.

Volunteers Needed - Eagle Chapter's NLEOM Committee. If you can make phone call encouragements, send gentle email reminders, and host conference calls with our active-duty force of project managers, we can use your skills on our committee. Contact me for more information and to sign up. We need the help. I'd like to get Laurie done this year. Airman Lucas was our first female Defender to die on active duty. Her unit Project Manager needs help to get her done. She's our longest open project. Been approved and open since 2017.
