Francophones from Africa at AL
|
Dear AL Community,
Today, two of our schools had the opportunity to meet the francophones participating in the Pan-Africa Youth Leadership Program. Funded by the U.S. Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), the three-week program engages participants from over 38 African countries in a U.S.-based cultural exchange and civic engagement training program. Global Ties KC, a local non-profit organization, focuses on giving our community the chance to make lasting global connections.
Program participants spent two hours going around classes and speaking with middle and high school students at Armour before making their way to Cherry. There, they toured the building and enjoyed the Black History Month performance. They were impressed with the level of French our students spoke and truly enjoyed their time with us.
I would like to thank Moulaye Seydi, Cherry Vice-Principal, and Dr. Tamara Falicov, Dean of UMKC Humanities and Social Sciences, for connecting with Sarah Lowderman of Global Ties KC at a Senegalese event sponsored by UMKC and making this visit possible.
Have a great weekend,
Elimane Mbengue
Head of School
