Wolf Creek Lodge Newsletter

Cohousing in Grass Valley, CA since 2012

May 2024

A home is available. See below for details.

Last month your editor wrote about heat pumps and solar photovoltaic panels. This month is a bit of a stretch for a non-gardener. We are going on a Wolf Creek Lodge garden tour. However, with a bit of help from my neighbors, we should have a rewarding visit.

Thank you Deanna, Richard, and Norma for contributed photos.

The Gardens at Wolf Creek Lodge

There is not one garden at Wolf Creek lodge but rather several. The gardens are irregularly shaped, following paths and the contours of the sloping land. They are tended by the active Landscaping Team.

The central garden abuts the patio and the pentanque court.

The central garden. Note the herb garden bounded by a rock wall behind the tree.

There are several areas for vegetables. Fruit trees and bushes intermingle with ornamental plants. Many potted plants are in nooks and crannies near front doors.

We are going to present you with a sampling. Please visit us to properly enjoy the displays

Our Very Special Garden

Back in the mid 2000s, way before we were built, I was one of a small group of founding members who met with a landscape architect, who lived in Nevada City Cohousing, to envision our Wolf Creek Lodge landscape.

She showed us pictures of other cohousing gardens and elicited our dreams for our own. We were enthralled with the concept of a free-flowing, abundant gathering of plants and trees that would bring color, shade, and privacy to our homes, and she captured our vision in her plan.

Over the years, with the ideas and hard work of the members of our Landscape Team, our gardens have evolved. Below are some pictures that I took of our foliage over the years.
