Tickets for the 2022 Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival are officially on sale with the event set to take over the Auburn Botanic Gardens from 20 August until 28 August. This is one of Council’s biggest and most iconic festivals. To make the experience enjoyable and ensure everyone can grab a great selfie, tickets to the cherry blossom viewing area must be pre-booked from allocated session times.
Summer sport is just around the corner and Council is seeking expressions of interest from sporting clubs for the upcoming season. The Summer season runs from Saturday 17 September through to Sunday 19 March. With applications closing Monday 1 August, don’t leave it too late to register your club’s interest. I recently toured Duck River with Councillor Greg Cummings and Councillor Mohamad Hussein where we explored the river’s eco-system and grasslands through the neighbouring suburbs of Granville, South Granville and Auburn. Cumberland Council is committed to improving the health of the Duck River to enhance our green spaces and parklands for the local community and the wider region of Sydney. This is also part of the Duck River Masterplan, which is a strategic plan that outlines future projects, ideas and interventions to ensure that the Duck River remains the “green heart” of Cumberland.
Council has reached another milestone in Merrylands, finishing a part of the construction works on the Neil Street precinct. The concrete barriers have now been removed, connecting Dressler Court to Pitt Street and Neil Street.
Lastly, it was a pleasure to join the Holroyd Garden Club at their Christmas in July event recently. The Garden Club celebrated 28 years since the not-for-profit was established in Cumberland. Some of the beautiful gardens we have in Cumberland can be attributed to the dedication and hard work of club members, who have passionately worked on beautifying their front yards and adding charm to our residential streets over the years.
