A Faith of Many Rooms: Inhabiting a More Spacious Christianity

by Debie Thomas

Debie Thomas writes both memoir and theological reflection about her journey to a faith that is spacious, and where she belongs.

Thomas knows what a cramped faith feels like, what it's like to wrestle your way out of fundamentalism and toward a more capacious faith. From the diasporic church in which she grew up, which traces its lineage to the doubting disciple in India in the first century, to the disorientations of a deconstructing faith, to an ample yet orthodox Christianity that makes room for all her identities, Thomas takes readers on a deeply personal and profoundly theological odyssey.”

Please contact Jane at priest@stlaurence.ca to sign up, or for more information.

Proposed dates: April 30 and May 7 at 7:00 pm. Please note date change!

Prayer Ministry at St Laurence

If you have a prayer request, the best way is to email Ross or phone him at 403-606-2525.

Thank you to everyone who turned out for our Conversations last week. We discussed the progress of our initiative to support the Transgender community. It has been taken on by a team of local Anglican laity and clergy, in conjunction with members of the Diocese of Edmonton.

The group is calling itself Proud Anglican Voices of Alberta (PAVA). There is a Facebook site for PAVA that you may join. If you would like to take part in the monthly PAVA meetings on Zoom, let Jane know.

As well, we discussed our participation in this year’s Pride events. MJ has offered to work with the Pride service team. We will also have a small team marching in the Pride parade, as part of the Affirming Network entry.

Join us at the Wisdom Centre for a day of learning and inspiration about the importance of our watersheds.

This workshop will dive deep into the connection between faith and caring for our environment. Consider ecological justice issues affecting our Calgary waterways; be introduced to indigenous ways of knowing the water; explore the role of watershed discipleship from biblical and theological perspectives; consider your role in supporting the water; and connect with others around water advocacy. You will also be introduced to three water-based prayer rituals to support personal and environmental healing.
