Promises to Keep

Some stories just break your heart.

We received a call last May from a police officer who'd been injured in the line of duty. Now in a wheelchair, he was scheduled to go to Texas for major surgery, but his beloved Labrador -- a three-year-old purebred called Jasmine -- needed to be rehomed. He broke down several times describing the bond between Jasmine and himself. Jasmine was his “world,” he said. He loved her more than life itself.

We asked if could hold Jasmine and give her back when his health improved, but the man said it was unlikely. He was not confident he'd get better. His neck had been broken when his patrol car crashed into a tree while in pursuit of a drunk driver during a storm. His doctors had told him that without the surgery, he would not survive. And even then, he said, the surgery was risky and they were not optimistic about the outcome.

But his biggest fear, he said, wasn’t for himself – it was for Jasmine. He would not have peace until he knew that Jasmine would have a new life with a loving family.

Jasmine went into foster with Donna Seiber on May 28th. We are honoring our promise to a police officer who lost so much in the line of duty.

Meet Suzie

Suzie is a beautiful, Labrador mix with golden eyes and the cutest freckles on her nose and paws. She is full of joy, but her life hasn't always been easy. Suzie was abandoned in Mexico. When we found her, she was living on a dump and rummaging for food to eat. Yet her joyful spirit survived intact.

Once in our care, Suzie was given love, warmth, healthy food, a great foster Mom, and the best medical care -- including treatment for two tick borne diseases. Today, she is a healthy, happy, beautiful girl who is looking for her new home.

Suzie loves people, other dogs, cats, and will make a great companion. Approved adopters can get her contact information from the Paw Print. Or click below to fill out an application to adopt (if you have not done so already).

YOU'RE MY HERO

Dipper | Rescued 2022

Really, you're great!
SOLR has rescued hundreds of grateful Labradors -- and it's all thanks to our generous donors and wonderful volunteers. We can't save dogs without you.

You're great! You give hope, love, and life itself to dogs that would otherwise be homeless and hungry.

We thank you. The dogs thank you. Ruff! Ruff! Ruff! It wouldn't be possible without you.
