Child Action, Inc. Has Big News!

We are thrilled to announce the hire of our new CEO, Adonai Mack

Adonai has most recently been leading efforts to reform child care reimbursement rates and ensure additional resources for children in California as the Senior Director for Education at Children Now, a non-partisan, whole-child research, policy development, and advocacy organization. Born and raised in Northern California, Adonai brings his longstanding community commitment along with his professional experience to usher in a new era of advocacy and community engagement.

Adonai is a graduate of Morehouse College (Atlanta, GA) and began his career in the Office of the Secretary of Education during the Davis Administration. He brings more than 20 years of legislative advocacy focused on California’s children. “Child Action has a strong foundation, and I am grateful to lead an exceptional organization to ensure access to affordable, quality child care and early education services for all of Sacramento’s children and families,” said Mack.

Welcome, Adonai!

Our office will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Our normal business hours will resume on Wednesday, July 5th.

Summertime Health and Safety

Sun Exposure - Plan activities for the morning hours when the temperatures are cooler, and the sun is not as intense. Choose shaded areas for outdoor play. Encourage parents to provide wide-brimmed hats for their children and complete a permission form to apply sunscreen.

Water Safety - Water play is a wonderful and cooling activity and does not require a pool. Use plastic bins, cups, buckets, or a sprinkler to incorporate water into your outdoor activities. Supervise children around all bodies of water as even shallow water can pose a risk.

Air Quality and Heat - Children need active play every day even when the outdoors is not so welcoming. Plan for fun activities inside for days when there is poor air quality or excessive heat. Set up a small water play station over a tarp or push back the furniture and create an obstacle course or have a dance party.

Contact our staff at info@childaction.org for support on creating a healthy, safe, and fun-filled child care environment.

Speak Up for Child Care!

On Monday, June 19th, Sacramento Family Child Care Home educator Maria testified in support of AB-596 (Reyes). If signed into law, this bill will help early learning and child care providers and families by transitioning providers to a single cost-based reimbursement rate, suspends family fees until an equitable family fee schedule can be established, and funds providers using an enrollment based contract earning mechanism. Maria’s testimony shows why passing this bill is so essential for child care providers to stay in business. Thank you for your powerful testimony, Maria! To check out Maria’s testimony click here.

If you are interested in advocacy, consider joining ECE Voices. This newly formed advocacy network is a mentorship program that will help you get engaged in advocacy work. It offers you advocacy training so you can feel comfortable to share you story with public officials and legislators.
