Dear Global Partners,
The year 2021 left several memorable moments in our Global One Health initiative (GOHi) community and, indeed, everyone on the planet. There have been many global events this past year, mainly COVID-19. The pandemic continued to upend every facet of life, including loss of lives, economic impacts, supply chains disruptions and much more. With the Omicron variant “tsunami,” the United States alone registered a record half a million cases in a single day. We want to make sure that everyone knows vaccines work and urge our partners to get vaccinated, including a booster, as soon as possible. Indeed, the world needs equitable vaccine distribution.
GOHi had a remarkable year, expanding its impact and boosting its local, regional and international activities unabated. Our work and grant funding enabled many of our key partners and team members to contribute to the science and practice of One Health globally.
In 2021, we celebrated GOHi’s 10th anniversary. We convened a series of high-impact panel and plenary sessions. I invite you to review the videos at go.osu.edu/GOHi10Videos. I would like to thank and congratulate all our GOHi associated students, staff and faculty at Ohio State and partners worldwide for this accomplishment.
I hope 2022 will be a year that we make COVID-19 history, and the world will commit to building resilient capacity to prepare and prevent future complex planetary disasters, be it climate change, economic crises or pandemics. I wish everyone a peaceful, healthy and productive year in 2022!
