Staff Spotlight: Jamie Spear


Emergency Clinician, Psychiatric Medical Team



Long Island native Jamie Spear had no idea that his dream job, and dream life, waited for him just a couple hundred miles north in southern Vermont.


Jamie studied sound design and lighting at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study and then worked in the television and theatre world, including tour stints with bands and occasional Broadway shows.

UCS expands Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program into Northshire region starting May 1:


United Counseling Service (UCS)’s outpatient Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program will expand to the Manchester, VT, region on May 1, building on their services based in Bennington, VT. The goal of UCS’ MAT program is to meet the growing need for substance use disorder treatment services in Bennington County.

UCS launches new Community Behavioral Support program for children and young adults in Bennington County:


United Counseling Service’s (UCS) Children, Youth and Family Services (CYFS) division launched a Community Behavioral Support (CBS) program on April 15 for children and young adults up to 22 years old in Bennington County experiencing behavioral and emotional challenges. The program is available from 8am-5pm Monday to Friday and can be accessed by calling 802-442-1700.

Enrollment applications are open at Head Start/Early Head Start:


Head Start/Early Head Start is now accepting applications for children ages six weeks to five years for summer enrollment and the 2024-2025 school year at its locations in North Bennington, Bennington, and Pownal, VT. Enrollment in Head Start includes expanded Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligibility, new community-based slots, childcare financial assistance, bus transportation, and a pre-kindergarten partnership with the Southwestern Vermont Supervisory Union.

UCS joins Alliance for Community Transformation's Take Care Project:


Our community partner, Alliance for Community Transformations (ACT), leads an initiative called the Take Care Project, which aims to expand access to free period products and hygiene essentials in the Bennington region. ACT empowered UCS to get involved in the program, and now the agency provides free menstrual products for visitors at its 100 Ledge Hill Drive and Children, Youth and Family Services location at 314 Dewey Street.
