UNITED WOMEN IN FAITH:
A NEW CHAPTER FOR UMW
For many years we have celebrated the work of the United Methodist Women. For over 150 years, the organized ministry of women has been transforming the world and making disciples of Jesus Christ. While now the largest denominational faith organization for women with 800,000 members, the first meeting had only 8 in attendance.

In 2022 the UMW has been rebranded and refocused. The vision of United Women of Faith is: We are a powerful, fearless force driven by God’s love and united in sisterhood. With a focus on women, children, and youth, we act for justice and transform communities. We face the realities we see in the world, even when they are not the ones we would like to see. However, our goal is not to bear witness simply to harm but also to God’s love by acting boldly to change those harms. Bold action, like faith, takes courage. Our bravery is inspired by God’s love and our powerful commitment to improve the lives of women, children, and youth. United Women in Faith works for justice through compassionate service and advocacy to change unfair policies and systems that harm women, children, and youth—from racial and gender injustice to economic inequality, climate issues, and more.

This Sunday, we celebrate this new chapter in the life of women’s ministry in our church. As is our tradition, the women will give leadership in worship. In addition to our local unit leading the prayers, affirmation, litany, and serving as greeters, we will have a special UMW speaker. Sarah Pounds, the Associate Director of the Wesley Foundation of Macon, will bring the message.

Sarah is originally from Macon and studied graphic design and journalism at Mercer University. She is now the Associate Director of Wesley of Macon, a ministry serving college-aged young adults in the Middle Georgia area. She is also a second-year seminarian at Asbury Theological Seminary pursuing her Masters of Divinity. Sarah is passionate about encouraging young adults wherever they are in their faith journey, inviting them to experience authentic community, and helping them grow in following Christ. When she's free, Sarah loves to hang out with her family and fiancé, make art, explore beautiful places, and eat dangerous amounts of queso.

We look forward to having Sarah bring the message, and the women lead the service.
UMCOR SUNDAY
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) responds to disasters in the United States and around the world by working with communities and local partners. When a disaster overwhelms a community’s ability to recover on its own, UMCOR provides essential relief supplies and supports long-term rebuilding efforts. While UMCOR is not a first-response organization, it stands ready to accompany communities in need over the long haul of their recovery until a “new normal” is established after a crisis. “Early in and last out” is a guiding principle of UMCOR.

Gifts given on UMCOR Sunday, March 27th strengthen the church’s global humanitarian response by underwriting UMCOR’s administrative costs. This allows UMCOR to use 100% of additional funds for specific programs like U.S. disaster responseinternational disaster response, and global migration
THE PAINTED LADIES ARE COMING
This Sunday, the caterpillars will be at Vineville looking for a temporary home. Watching the transformation process has become part of our Lenten tradition. These tiny earthbound caterpillars morph into beautiful Painted Lady Butterflies. The dramatic visible changes in the caterpillars invite us to look for transformation in our own lives. What is God doing in you this season? Be in your place this Sunday to get your caterpillar.

Peace,

Senior Recognition Sunday: May 1st

Parents of Graduating Seniors,

Senior Recognition Sunday is May 1st! This is a very special day in the life of our VM Family. If you are the parent, or guardian of a graduating senior (member or not), we would love for you and your family to be a part of this special day! Let me tell you about it.

We start off with our Senior Brunch at 10:00 a.m. for all the seniors and their families.  For that, I just need to know if you'll be attending and how many will be in your party. We'll take care of the rest!

The actual service takes place at 11:00 a.m. in the CLC at Vineville. This is where the whole church family gets together to cheer on our graduates. Once again, I get to bring a final message to my seniors. We will also be giving out several SCHOLARSHIPS that your student may apply for. (NOTE: Some of the scholarships are available for non-members as well, so please apply.)

What I Need From You: Simply send an e-mail to Mike Kinnebrew at mikekinnebrew@gmail.com  and let me know if your family will be able to join us. I will then send you the scholarship application and the form to fill out for the senior booklet. Easy as pie!

THE DEADLINE FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS AND
SENIOR QUESTIONNAIRES IS WEDNESDAY, 4/6.

Let's get excited!
Mike
SERVING WITH THE CONNECTION
Last Sunday, we hosted the North Central District's District Conference. Representatives from the 99 churches in the district gathered for a brief business meeting and service project. Clergy and laity joined to pack 13,824 meals for Rise Against Hunger. Vineville was well represented. Rev. Craig Hutto, our District Superintendent, thanked the members and staff of Vineville for their hospitality and service.
