April 28, Fifth Sunday of Easter

Adult Sunday School

We’ll finish up this week with our look at the Gospel readings for the Easter Season and then cycle back through the first readings from Acts to see how they connect and prepare us for Pentecost and the green season beyond. Join us in the Hoffmeister Room at 11 a.m. or on Zoom using the Grace Meeting link.

Readings and Psalm

Acts 8:26-40: Philip teaches and baptizes an Ethiopian

Psalm 22:25-31: All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord. (Ps. 22:27)

1 John 4:7-21: God’s love perfected in love for one another

John 15:1-8: Christ the vine

This Sunday’s image of how the risen Christ shares his life with us is the image of the vine. Christ the vine and we the branches are alive in each other, in the mystery of mutual abiding described in the gospel and the first letter of John. Baptism makes us a part of Christ’s living and life-giving self and makes us alive with Christ’s life. As the vine brings food to the branches, Christ feeds us at his table. We are sent out to bear fruit for the life of the world.

God's Gifts; Our Hands

Volunteers are needed for the week of Monday, May 27, to deliver food for Meals on Wheels. We have two days that still need to be filled for our designated week: Wednesday, May, 29, and Thursday, May, 30. Two people are needed each day for approximately two hours (10:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.). Sign-up with a friend or family member and enjoy your time connecting with others. This is a well organized way to reach out to others in our community. You can sign-up as a driver or a runner. The sign-up sheet will be on the table in the narthex or you can reach out to Leanne Wichus.

Thank you for your help and support of this ministry. Let me know if you have any questions.

Prayer Requests

We have two formal ways of praying for one another at Grace. One is in the Sunday morning worship service, where we pray for people by name in the Prayers of Intercession. They will also be listed in the emailed and printed versions of GraceNotes, but not in the web version. Please send prayer requests for the Sunday-morning prayers to office@glccu.org. You may also submit prayer requests on our website at https://glccu.org/prayer-requests/.

Using GLC Facilities

Our facilities are available for use by members and by outside groups. If you would like to use any part of the facility, please fill out a Facilities Use Request, found on the web site, and contact Alex in the office to ensure that it is on the calendar, so that the space is ready for you and that you are aware of how to adjust the appropriate thermostat.
