A Message From Pastor Dale

In a world where environmental concerns are increasingly at the forefront of news headlines - globally, nationally, and locally - we each are called upon to pay attention, stay informed, and take action.

This is true of congregations too. I am pleased to say that our congregation has responded with the development of a Creation Care Team - a team dedicated to embracing environmental stewardship practices that honor the sanctity of our planet. As with all we do at St. Paul Lutheran, at the heart of this Team’s mission lies their strong belief in "Sharing Christ's Love With Joy!", and what better way to live this out than by teaching and inspiring all of us to care for the world that surrounds us?

Already this year, our congregation’s efforts towards environmental stewardship have been both impactful and inspiring. We've made significant strides in reducing our ecological footprint within our church walls. Recognizing the importance of energy efficiency, we recently replaced all fluorescent light bulbs throughout our building with energy-efficient LEDs. This simple yet impactful switch not only reduces our energy consumption but also serves as a testament to our renewed commitment to sustainable practices. Additionally, we've reevaluated our use of disposable materials, opting for more eco-friendly alternatives. By transitioning from non-recyclable plastic communion cups to washable glass cups, we've minimized waste and embraced a more sustainable approach to how we serve Holy Communion. Similarly, our switch from styrofoam coffee cups to compostable cups reflects our dedication to using biodegradable alternatives when/if able.

In other ways, just this past Wednesday, twenty-five eager and dedicated members from our congregation volunteered their time to participate in our adopt-a-highway roadside cleanup project. Fitted with gloves, neon yellow safety vests, and bright orange garbage bags, they picked up numerous bags of litter. Their collective action modeled the power of community and demonstrated our commitment to caring for the Earth. Some of our nearby neighbors even took notice and expressed their appreciation (one even with a financial donation!)

Additionally, fifteen more volunteers came together for our annual church spring cleanup the next night (Thursday), ensuring that our property and grounds would be ready to host the Annual Synodical Women’s Convention to be held here tomorrow! Their efforts, though humble, speak volumes about our shared responsibility to nurture and protect the environment surrounding where we gather for fellowship, worship, and service.

So, as we conclude this Earth Week and come together this Sunday to celebrate Creation Care Sunday, we do so with a sense of gratitude and respect for the world around us. Through our actions, both big and small, we strive to live out the teachings of Christ and honor the gift of God’s creation. Our commitment to environmental stewardship is not a duty but a joyful expression of love. In caring for the Earth, we are not only honoring the Creator but also fulfilling our God-given responsibility to be stewards of it. We'll explore this further on Sunday.

Happy Creation Care Sunday!

See you in church! (and bring a friend!)

PARISH NURSE'S CORNER

It’s your friendly nurse’s here to talk about a new topic this week, do you have a burning health care question or a topic you want more information about? Please let Jaime or Joanna know and we will add to the Nurse’s corner!

I know many of you might be circling that box on your driver’s license application where it asks if you are a donor. Do you ever stop to think about what that actually means- or how that affects others?

Only 3 in every 1000 people actually become donors even though 169 million people are signed up as donors. Anyone can sign up to be a donor and one donor can help save the lives of 8 other people. Did you know every 10 minutes another person is added to the list needing donation.

Donation is not just after death, there are actually several donations that can be done while living and still live normal, active lives. Some examples include kidney, partial liver, or tissue donation. This is something that deeply impacts people’s lives and often we are unaware of who it might have helped.

April is National Donate Life Month. Maya Angelou’s quote, “Be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud" sums up what this means to someone else. There are more ways than just signing up on your drivers license to help with this effort, other ways that you might be able to help include; giving hope and help save lives by registering your decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor at your local DMV, on RegisterMe.org or in your iPhone Health App.

Did you know that there are several companies who work to help supply people in need with organ donation? In Minnesota the company is Lifesource. If you are interested in more information visit their website or call 1-888-5-DONATE. If you have other questions about organ donation in general visit the HRSA website.

I had the privilege of listening to a donor family this month talk about the donation process and how they felt their loved one was able to live on after life in these other people’s lives that they had saved. It was maybe one of the most powerful stories of grief and hope I have ever heard. Here is a link to test your knowledge about the story of donation! The companies who assist with organ donation are involved after the donation process takes place offering support to families and friends.

We are blessed to have knowledgeable, caring nurses in our congregation. If you have questions for Joanna or Jaime, call the main office

BE THE BRIDGE!

Our "Bridge the Gap: Two Years of Renewed Mission & Ministry" appeal and learning series is underway! After all of the accomplishments of the last two and a half years, we are well on our way out of redevelopment, but we are not there yet. This Bridge the Gap two-year journey towards renewed mission and ministry will get us where we need to be. We have four set goals - to increase membership, to increase general fund offerings, to match our generous anonymous gift, and to become debt free. In addition, throughout our two-year appeal, every three months a specific Sunday will be designated as "Bridge the Gap Sunday" and will focus on various gaps that churches in redevelopment need to cross. We invite you to help Bridge the Gap at St. Paul Lutheran!

Find Out More About Bridge the Gap!

Our little walker has taken another step! Every $2000 received he/she gets to take another step over the bridge!
